HS Roundup: Big volleyball wins for Alvirne, Merrimack, Souhegan
It was volleyball and field hockey day/night Wednesday with local high school teams, and it seems like we all missed a thriller in Hudson, and a good one in Souhegan, and a great one in Goffsown.
Here is your Wednesday rundown:
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
ALVIRNE 3, NASHUA SOUTH 2
It was an all-local thriller at The Barn as the Broncos took the deciding fifth set 15-11. The teams split the first four, 25-15, 17-25, 18-25, 28-26, Alvirne barely pulling out that fourth set to force the fifth.
Hailee Lane had 23 kills to lead the 4-5 Broncos, while Ava Ellis had 11 kills and three aces. Cori Sevigny and Lisa Amadi (six kills each), Carolyn McElhinney and Mena Lewis (three aces apiece) also were keys. Lewis also spread the offense around with 44 assists.
For the 2-7 Panthers, Addy Campbell had six kills and 20 digs while Rebeccca Walters (19 digs, 15 assists, five aces ) and Joelle Primo (five blocks, three digs, five kills) also contributed.
Alvirne hosts Goffstown on Friday while South hopes to snap a six-game skid vs. Concord Friday at the Belanger Gym.
MERRIMACK 3, GOFFSTOWN 2
The 3-10 Tomahawks were down 2-0 before rallying 25-21, 25-21, and 15-13 for the win, snapping a four-match skid.
They had dropped the first two sets 25-14, 25-17. Leah Monroe led the locals with16 kills, while Lucy Althouse had seven kills and four blocks, and Bella Stiles 35 assists.
Merrimack hosts local rival Nashua North on Friday.
SOUHEGAN 3, MILFORD 1
The Sabers moved to 8-3 with a 25-22, 25-20, 8-25, 25-22 win.
The Spartans, now 7-2, got nine kills from Savannah Watson, 22 asists by Kassie Cupin, and three key serves by Maddie Morin in the fourth set.
FIELD HOCKEY
BISHOP GUERTIN 6, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0
Addie Dadonna had three goals (two unassisted), while Carly Green had two goals and an assist as BG improved to 7-3.
Maris Bilodeau added a goal while other assists went to Mia Yakuboff and Sophia Harrington.
BG hosts Goffstown at Stellos Stadium on Saturday.
KEENE 4, NASHUA SOUTH 0
The Panthers fell to 2-10 despite 14 saves in goal by Meury Navarette. Maggie Schmidt, Sofia Forti and Emme Christian all had defensive saves as well.
Also playing well for South were Wylie Hart and Keegan Dolan.
South hosts Manchester Central-West on Friday night for Senior Night at Stellos.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 5, LEBANON 0
The Cavs moved to 7-2 on three goals by Anna McGurk plus singles by Brooke Bouchard and Ashley Disco.
