UNH men’s soccer still seeking first win after 2-1 loss

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Senior back Matteo Piccardo (Genova, Italy) scored his first collegiate goal but the University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team fell to Western Michigan, 2-1, on Monday afternoon at WMU Soccer Complex.

The Wildcats fall to 0-3-1, while the Broncos improve to 1-3-0.

Piccardo scored his first collegiate goal in the 40th minute (39:59) when he knocked in a pass by freshman Xahvi DeRoza from five yards out.

The Broncos tied the match at 1-1 in the 65th minute (64:12) when Jonathan Stout fired a free kick from 25 yards out to the lower right corner of the net.

Then in the 74th minute (73:49), Roni Sylejmani blasted a shot from eight yards out to the lower left side of the goal for the game winner.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

WMU outshot UNH, 20-9, while the Broncos posted 11 shots on goal and the Wildcats took three.

The Broncos attempted six corner kicks and the ‘Cats took three.

Graduate student Claudio Fuentealba (Rancagua, Chile) recorded nine saves for UNH, while Alex Lindewirth earned the win with two saves.
