UNH women’s soccer falls to Boston University in opener

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team fell to Boston University, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field in the season opener.

The ‘Cats fall to 0-1, while the Terriers, who won the 2024 Patriot League championship, improve to 1-0.

UNH returns to action for the home opener at Wildcat Stadium versus Stonehill on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

Junior goalkeeper Sonja Zeepvat (Mendham, N.J.) made two big saves to keep the Terriers off the scoreboard in the seventh minute with a kick save off a shot by Giulianna Gianino and then a diving save at the lower left post off an attempt by Ava Maguire.

Wildcat senior Abbi Maier just missed finding the back of the net when her shot hit the left post in the 14th minute.

The Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute (30:45) when Georgia Prouty fired a shot to the right side of the net from 20 yards out.

The Wildcats then almost tied the game with a shot by sophomore Brooke Pearson (Plainville, Conn.) from 20 yards out that ricochetted off the top of the goal.

BU increased the lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute (34:08) when Juliana Osterman sent a shot from 15 yards out to the lower right corner.

An own goal gave the Terriers a 3-0 advantage in the 43rd minute (42:58).

Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Cohen made a charging save on a shot by Samantha Aronson in the 55th minute.

In the 89th minute, UNH freshman Angel Deluhery blasted a shot from 30 yards out that BU goalkeeper Susan Shobeiri tipped as the ball then hit the post.
