FADING FAST: Silver Knights lose huge game at New Britain

The Nashua Silver Knights’ faint playoff hopes just faded even further.

The Knights fell to the team their chasing for the final FCBL playoff spot, the New Britain Bees, 5-0 at New Britain Stadium.

Offense has been a problem all season long, and although Nashua out-hit the Bees 8-6, they left nine men on base.

Nashua starting pitcher Tommy Flaherty lasted just three innings, as he gave up three runs in the third on three hits, the big blow a two-out, two-run double by the Bees’ Brennan Staubley. George Slauson then singled Staubley in and it was 3-0 NB.

Nashua just couldn’t put any big threats against four Bees pitchers, the win awarded to reliever Ben Oliveira, who still gave up three hits in 2.1 innings. But no damage. Jake Elbeery and Cole Patterson singled in the sixth but were left on.

The Bees put two more across in the eighth vs. reliever Colby Correia as Slauson had an RBI single and Camden Righi walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-0. Meanwhile, Nashua averaged a runner left on base per inning.

Patterson, Elbeery and Brenden Walsh each went 2 for 4 while Ernie Little and Will Burns each had a hit. Walsh had Nashua’s only extra base hit, a double.

The Knights now will hope to win out and see. They host Worcester today at 6:03 p.m. at Holman Stadium, sending ace Andrew Chenevert to the mound, while New Britain hosts last place Westfield.
