The Nashua Silver Knights don’t always leave Vermont with smiles on their faces, but they did Saturday night after downing the Lake Monsters, 9-4 before 2,379 at Centennial Field.

The offensive catalyst was designated hitter Joey Current, who had three hits including a three-run homer and drove in five. And, of course, starter Andrew Chenevert, who is now 5-0 despite giving up 10 hits and four earned runs over seven innings. But it did the trick, as the Lake Monsters (21-13) committed a whopping six errors leading to three unearned Nashua runs.

Vermont grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning on consecutive RBI doubles by Shaun McMillan and Hunter Kingsbury, plus an RBI single by Leandro Guevara. But Chenevert gave up just one run the rest of the way, a seventh inning solo homer by Lake Monster Nick Frontino.

Meanwhile, Nashua (18-16) made the most of its nine hits. Current’s homer came off Vermont reliever Bryce DiPiero in the top of the fourth to answer Vermont right away. Later in the inning, Nigel Sebastianelli scored on an infield error to give the Knights a 4-3 lead they’d never relinquish.

Nashua added to the lead in the fifth with three runs on a Current RBI single, a Vermont error on the play, and another on a fielder’s choice.

Their other runs came on a Current sac fly in the seventh and a Nigel Sebastianelli RBI single in the ninth. The shortstop was 2 for 5 with a run and two RBIs.

Josh Florence pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits with two strikeouts.

Nashua now heads to New Britain for a rematch with the Bees, whom they edged 2-1 in the holiday game on Friday. Ethan Hunt will be set to take the hill for Nashua. The Bees were stung by Worcester last night, 11-1, at Fitton Field.
