NASHUA — In Saturday’s American Senior Legion State Tourney game at Historic Holman Stadium, Nashua’s James E. Coffey Post3 starting pitcher, the recent Bishop Guertin grad Ben Geiger, had a clear mission: shut down the Rochester bats. By any measure, it was a mission accomplished.

Geiger struck out six, and behind a dominant offensive performance, Nashua secured an 11-1 win and will be moving on to a showdown of top District seeds with Bedford tonight at 7 at HHS. The winner goes to the finals, slated for Tuesday.

Last night, Nashua’s opening salvo came from third baseman Nicolas Wyner, who doubled in the top of the first inning, driving in Keenan-John Myers for an early one run advantage. Rochester would find the equalizer on a sacrifice fly from Brayden Comeau.

The momentary deadlock wouldn’t avail for long, as Nashua’s Liam Ireland walloped a pitch beyond the left field wall into the picnic area for a 3-1 Nashua lead.

The offensive onslaught would continue with RBI doubles courtesy of Ireland and Logan Droiun, before a five-run inning in the bottom of the 6th. Nashua would walk off on the mercy rule, Mario Ramirez driving in the 11th on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

OTHER GAMES, SCHEDULE

The game of day was likely Bedford’s 3-0 win over Exeter, while Laconia eliminted last year’s finalist, Salem 6-4 and Keene stayed alive by sending Lebanon packing, 2-1.

Today it’s Keene vs. Exeter at 1 p.m., Laconia vs. Rochester at 4 and the showdown between Nashua and Bedford at 7.
