NASHUA – The Rivier baseball team defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Lasell by a final score of 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at Harvey Woods Field.

The victory marks the program’s first over the Lasers since 2016, snapping a 13-game losing streak.

The Raiders improved to 12-17 (7-7 GNAC) with the win, while Lasell dropped to 22-10 (10-2 GNAC).

It was a pitcher’s duel through the first three innings as both squads were held scoreless. Junior righthander Anthony Morro was dominant out of the gate, striking out four batters in that span.

A trio of singles from seniors Kyle Hsu, JD Normand, and Luis Tejada loaded the bases for junior Dylan Aliberti who reached on a fielder’s choice. An error by the catcher allowed Hsu to score, giving Rivier a 1-0 advantage. With the bases still loaded and two outs, junior Owen Medlock recorded the fourth base knock of the inning, bringing home Normand. Another error, this time by the Lasell shortstop, allowed Tejada to cross the plate as well to extend the lead to three runs.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Lasell recorded its first tally of the contest on a sacrifice fly to center field off the bat of Scott Lyon. In the bottom half of the frame, Rivier responded with a sacrifice fly from first-year Jayce Martinez which allowed the Raiders to regain their three-run lead.

The Lasers once again cut the deficit to two runs in the top of the eighth, this time on an RBI double from Connor Freitas.

In his second inning of work, junior righthanded reliever Ty Baker shut the door in the top of the ninth, recording his seventh save of the campaign by retiring the side to secure the victory.

Morro earned the win, allowing just one run with six strikeouts over seven innings. Medlock, Normand, and junior Nathan Innerfield each tallied two hits with Medlock contributing one of Rivier’s two runs batted in.

The Raiders return to the home field for Senior Day and their regular-season finale on Sunday as they take on Colby-Sawyer in a GNAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
