Pardon the interruption, Chiefs, but it could be Bills’ time

You’re getting ancy, right Patriot fans?
Fear not, you should be happy by the end of the night.
Welcome to Championship Sunday.
Yes, we think the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty is going to be interrupted by the Buffalo Bills tonight at Arrowhead Stadium. But the reason most Patriot fans will be happy is they don’t want the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes to do something New England and Tom Brady never did: win three straight Super Bowls.
That (and probably gambling) is what keeps Patriot fans somewhat interested in the NFL’s postseason, and we can’t blame them. This was the time when you’d reserve the whole day, the AFC and NFC Conference Championships. This was a day personally we spent in Pittsburgh twice on the road and countless times in Foxborough. The results set the tone for the next two-plus weeks if the Patriots won; the rest of a long, cold winter if the Patriots lost (hello, Denver).
The Chiefs lost an AFC Title Game vs. the Patriots in overtime six years ago. We think it might happen to another AFC East team this time:
BILLS 23, CHIEFS 20
It ends. It just feels like the Bills have a better offense than the Chiefs and this may be Josh Allen’s time. They were the only team to legitimately beat KC (the last game of the year the Chiefs rested their starters), and they did it by simply putting their offense to work. Now granted, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo does a great job of shutting down good quarterbacks with a mix of pressure and disguised coverages, but we know Mahomes has seen everything. The problem is, who is he throwing to. You see Travis Kelce run lately? That’s why he’s not getting double teamed any more. We say Buffalo is back in the Super Bowl, all hail Marv Levy.
EAGLES 27, COMMANDERS 24
Another good one. It’s really, really tempting to go with the Commanders and the play of Jayden Daniels. We should have figured the Lions were out of defenders to stop this kid. But the one thing that Philly has had all season is dominance up front, and we feel that’s how you win football games. Yes, Jalen Hurts is, well, hurt, basically playing on one leg. But funny things happen in these games. The Eagles won last week because their line opened up huge holes for Hurts (one) and Barkley (two). And the Rams had no safety help, ridiculous. They may have won if the weather wasn’t as bad.
We’ve said since mid-season that Philly would be in the Super Bowl. That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it.
LAST WEEK: 2-2
PLAYOFFS: 5-5
FINAL REGULAR SEASON: 86-40
