PAXTON, Mass. – The Rivier field hockey team soundly defeated Anna Maria in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road contest, 8-0, on Saturday afternoon at Caparso Field.

Graduate student Kayla Miles broke the program’s all-time career points record with a one-goal, one-assist output to now sit at 56 at Caparso Field in Paxton, Mass. The previous record of 52 was held by Linsey Roth ’19.

The win propelled the Raiders to a record of 5-8 (3-5 GNAC) while the AMCATS remained winless through 11 contests.

Miles broke the scoring open 5:38 into the contest on a feed from sophomore Brianna Spinelli. Spinelli would score with help from Miles over six minutes later to double the Raiders’ lead before the end of the first quarter.

Senior Jacklyn O’Connor added an unassisted goal 7:40 into the second half to make it a three-goal lead. Rivier would add two more goals in the third frame, with seniors Hailey Morse and Madison Bovill striking to make it 5-0 in favor of the Raiders.

Junior Reilly Swislosky scored early in the fourth before Bovill tallied the final two goals of her hat trick to secure the 8-0 victory.

Senior keeper Kylie Coupal made two saves in goal over the opening 45 minutes to earn her fourth win of the campaign. Junior Lily Gifford made three stops in the fourth quarter to secure the combined shutout.

Rivier outshot Anna Maria, 46-9, with 36 shots landing on target. The Raiders earned 12 penalty corners to the AMCATS’ one.

The Raiders will return home to Merrill Field for a GNAC matchup against New England Col. on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

MEN’S SOCCER

RIVIER 3, DEAN 1

This GNAC victory on Senior Day at Merrill Field marked Rivier’s first win over Dean in program history, ending a four-game losing streak against the Bulldogs. With the win, Rivier improved to 5-4-4 overall (3-3-3 GNAC), while Dean dropped to 3-8-1 (2-6-1 GNAC).

The Raiders struck early, with senior Jason Harlow scoring in the second minute from a deflected shot from classmate Hayden Bilodeau, who was set up by fellow senior Jose Ochoa’s cross.

Dean responded in the 25th minute, netting an equalizing goal to level the score.

Rivier regained the lead just before halftime as sophomore Jayden Medlin won the ball, then rifled a shot from outside the box that sailed into the top right corner, giving the Raiders a 2-1 advantage at the break.

The Raiders added to their lead in the 77th minute when senior Jonathan Rudy powered through the Dean defense and finished a pass from graduate student Thomas Hennessey to seal the 3-1 victory.

The Raiders outshot the Bulldogs, 22-11, with six shots landing on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Logan Clough recorded five saves in the contest for Rivier.

The Raiders look to build on the momentum in a conference matchup against Elms on Tuesday at Leary Field at 7 p.m.
