There was good news on the first day at the Little League Intermediate Northeast Regional Baseball Tournament as Nashua was victorious over Delaware 6-2.

The game was a pitchers’ duel for about five-and-a-half innings until Nashua opened it up in the bottom of the sixth, scoring 4 runs. Host team Dover opened up the first inning with a run and then Nashua countered with two in the bottom of the first. The next four innings went scoreless.

Delaware tied it up in the top of the sixth and then Nashua opened it up with the aforementioned four runs.

Nashua could see Dover again as it awaits the winner of the Maryland-Dover game that is slated for today at 10 a.m. Nashua has today off and will play either Delaware or Maryland on Monday at 10 a.m.

Nashua’s pitching was led by Jordan Riley (three innings, seven strikeouts) and Ben Sterner (three innings, four strikeouts). Cole Dube came in for the seventh and struck out the side.

Nashua hitting was led by Cole Dube (two doubles, single, and two runs), Niko Stefiuk (double, Single and two RBIs), and Gates Kelly (triple, a walk, and two RBIs).

Little League’s Intermediate Division is the second of four Little League divisions by development. The pitching mound is 50 feet from home plate, and the basepaths are 70 feet apart. That allows for a transition from Little League’s usually smaller field dimensions (46/60) and standard field dimensions of more advanced play of 60.5/90).
