The one constant for the New England Patriots the last couple of seasons has been center David Andrews.
Thursday the Patriots reportedly rewarded him for that, as he agreed to a contract extension that goes through the 2025 season at $12 million per year, with a reported $8 million guaranteed. Incentives could raise that annual rate to $13 million.
One of the team’s captains, last year he was usually the first player to come out to meet the media after even the most frustrating losses. He was reportedly slated to earn $5.5 million this season, and his cap hit was , before this latest move, to be $8.43 million.
Andrews has basically been the rock of the offensive line, as he’s started 127 games over his career and played over 1,000 snaps last season, the fourth time he’s done that. Andrews was rumored to be contemplating retirement after last year’s 4-13 season, and he was always extremely loyal to former Patriots coach Bill Belichick. But he told ESPN during the off-season he was coming back.
His extension marks a pattern in the new regime headed by VP of Football Operations Eliot Wolf and head coach Jerod Mayo have re-signed players they feel are part of the Patriots core, such as offensive lineman Michael Owenu, receiver Kendrick Bourne, etc. Andrews likely goes to the top of that group.
