Raider Roundup: Softball sweeps, men’s lax wins again

NASHUA — The Rivier softball team swept the Falcons of Fisher College 20-0 and 22-4 Wednesday night in a pair of non conference games to improve to 10-16 overall.

Windham’s Nicole Capra topped the Raiders offense in the opener after getting two hits in both her at bats. She pushed across four runs for the Raiders on those hits and also crossed Homeplate four times herself.

Londonderry’s Sarah Frazier continues to excel at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Nicole Verette (Haverhill, MA) got her fourth win of the season during three hitless innings with six strikeouts. Courtney Marioles came in to finish the game off, allowing one hit and striking out five.

Madison Kelley got the only Fisher hit in game one.

In the nightcap, Salem’s Katherine Quinn was a perfect 4 for 4 with a game high six RBIs. Mason’s Amanda Atkinson tallied one hit in game two but pushed across four runs for the Raiders.

Sarah McCluskey batted in two more for Riv while going 4 for 4. Giavanna Allsop of Bedford finished the game 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Emma Langer picked up win number three in the circle on five innings work, allowing just four hits and four strikeouts. She also had a solid day at the plate, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

The Raiders are back in action today when New England College makes the trip to Raider Diamond.

MEN’S LACROSSE

RIVIER 11, ST. JOE’S (Me.) 10 (OT)

After a scoreless first OT, Coby Mercier would net the game winner for the Raiders in Standish, Me. to improve to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in GNAC play.

After Connor Eck got the scoring started in the first quarter for the Raiders, the Monks would go on a four-goal run to go up 4-1. Calvin Heline would net two for SJC during that run. Nicholas Tavares would end the St. Joe’s unanswered scores with his first of the game. Timothy Goodfellow would net the fifth goal for the Monks along with his second of the contest. The first quarter would end with two goals from the Raiders, Tavares and Nashua’s Chris Heitmiller.

Rivier would take the lead in the second quarter with three goals. Michael Ference would score his first and second goals of the game to tie and give Riv a 6-5 lead. Tavares would score his third goal of the game to push their lead to two going into the break.

The Monks would start the second half with four straight goals. Max Lacy would put in three, with Goodfellow netting another. Ference would net his third of the game, putting the Raiders down just one going into the fourth quarter.

Heitmiller would put his second and third goals of the game in the net to take the lead back at 10-9. There was just 28 seconds left when the Monks Zavier Balzano would tie the game up and send it into overtime.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Tavares, Ference, and Heitmiller all had three goals in the contest. Ference would add two assists to his stat line.

Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) picked up his 11th win of the season after making 16 saves.

Rivier will be back in action Saturday against JWU at Joanne Merrill Field at 1 p.m.
