Rivier Roundup: Seniors pace volleyball win; softball falls

NASHUA — The Rivier men’s volleyball team took honored its six seniors in style on Thursday night with a 3-0 conference triumph over Emerson College at the Muldoon Center.
The Raiders improved to 15-8 overall (12-2 GNAC) with set scores of 25-17, 25-10, 25-18, a fitting way to celebrate the careers of seniors Pedro Campos ,Jack Hromada, Jack Normandin, Ernesto Montes and David Smith.
Smith and Campos fittingly paved the way as Smith had a game high 15 kills with five aces and Campos dished out 27 assists.
The Raiders came out swinging, outkilling the Lions 37-22. The Raiders also played clean volleyball with only 10 errors on the night. The first set consisted of Rivier putting down 11 attempts for a .474 percentage. Emerson tallied nine kills with seven errors.
The second set was dominated by Smith, both on the offensive side and serving. He ended the set with five service aces, giving him a match high.
The third and final set was more aces by the Raiders, who tallied 11 in the match. Hromanda and Ly helped keep the Lions most productive set at a minimum with a combined 13 digs (Hromada six, Ly seven).
Emerson (3-17, 2-10 GNAC) put together its first double digit kills with 10. However, Riv would also have its best hitting set of the night with 14 kills.
Rivier will end the regular season with a tri-match against Regis College and Wentworth at the Muldoon. They will take on Wentworth at noon, with Regis coming at 2 p.m.
SOFTBALL
LESLEY SWEEPS RAIDERS
Rivier fell in a non-conference twinbill, 10-5 and 12-1 at Raider Field.
In the opener, The Lynx would go up on the Raiders 5-0 after a productive top of the second.
Rivier would get four back. The Raiders first run would come across after a double to center field by Josie Maggiore in the bottom of the fourth inning. The next three would come in the fifth. Giavanna Allsop would get it started with double to plate one. Sarah Frazier would push two more across with another Raider double.
Lesley would tack on three more to finish the game up. Frazier led the Raiders offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Lesley’s Jordan Day led all offensive categories with three hits, five RBIs, and two runs scored.
In the nightcap, Lesley (2-4) built another 5-0 lead through six innings. Day had another huge game, starting with a two-run double in the top of the sixth and ending the game in the seventh with her second home run of the day, a grand slam. She had 11 RBIs between the two games.
The Raiders lone run would come on a Julia Dailey single up the middle.
Rivier (3-11) hosts Maine-Farmington today at 4 and 6 p.m.
