Wildcat women struggle in second half en route to loss

DURHAM — The University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team fell in America East play at home on Sunday to Stony Brook, 71-53 at Lundholm Gym.

UNH falls to 3-12 overall (0-4 AE), while the Seawolves improve to 13-2 (4-1 AE) after the victory.

Freshman forward Talia Davis (Dedham, Mass.) notched a career-high 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting with nine rebounds, while graduate student guard Amanda Torres of Hudson-Nashua totaled 15 points on 5-of-11 from the field with a career-high eight rebounds and two steals in the losing effort for the Wildcats. Torres sits at 991 career points and needs just nine points on Wednesday to become the 22nd player in program history with 1,000 points.

The ‘Cats shot a game-high 58% from the field in the third stanza on 7-of-12 shooting and won the rebounding battle vs. the Seawolves, 35-34.

UNH trailed 29-22 at halftime, after having a 12-10 lead after the opening quarter.

Leighah-Amori Wool and Anastasia Warren is chipped in with 12 points apiece in the victory for the Seawolves.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday against Hartford in America East play. Game time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
