By The Associated Press - | Jul 9, 2021

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Second-ranked Blue Jays prospect Austin Martin and Tanner Kirwer each delivered a pair of hits, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell for a third straight night to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets) on Thursday at Mirabito Stadium.

The Fisher Cats (23-31) did record five singles over the last two frames, but only managed to score one run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning, dropping the contest 5-1.

Rumble Ponies starter Josh Walker (W, 4-1) did not allow a run in his six innings, walking one and striking out five. Andrew Mitchell worked around a pair of New Hampshire singles in the ninth to prevent any comeback.

For the third consecutive night, the Rumble Ponies (21-34) scored in the bottom of the first inning. Jake Mangum was hit by a pitch, Carlos Cortes walked, and Mark Vientos doubled in the run.

The Rumble Ponies soon extended the lead to 4-0. Manny Rodriguez drove in a run with a double in the second, and Cortes doubled in the third before scoring on a single by Wagner Lagrange.

Mangum homered off Fisher Cats reliever Marcus Reyes to make it 5-0. The sixth-inning run was the only one allowed in three innings of work by the southpaw. Reyes struck out six. Mike Ellenbest followed Reyes to the mound, striking out four in two perfect innings.

New Hampshire starter Maximo Castillo (L, 6-2) saw his four-game win streak come to an end, allowing four runs in his three innings.
