Scotti has the right stuff but Silver Knights pen doesn’t

Wyatt Scotti may have saved his best for last, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Nashua Silver Knights from losing their 20th game of the season on Sunday night before a holiday crowd of 2,799 at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass.
The Knights fell 8-1 to the Pittsfield Suns to fall to 9-20, in last place in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. But that was through no fault of Scotti, who is expected to depart for Harwich of the Cape Cod League following last night’s start.
Scotti, from Barnstable, Mass., tossed 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, walking one, and striking out three, while lowering his earned run average to 1.29 in what was likely his final start as a Silver Knight.
The Knights bullpen, however, wasn’t as sharp as it gave up all eight runs to the 20-11 Suns. Derry’s George Welch was the loser, despite the fact he gave up just one unearned run in the fifth. The rest of the pen allowed seven runs on six hits, but only four earned as Nashua made two errors.
Two-run doubles by Joe Lara and Caleb Shpur proved costly. Pittsfield broke things open with four in the eighth.
Offensively, Nashua had eight hits, led by Londonderry’s Brandon Fish, who went 3 for 4 and drove in the Knights’ lone run with an RBI triple, scoring Shane McNamara, who was hit by a pitch.
Nashua now heads to Vermont for what is likely a true road trip, back-to-back games vs. the Lake Monsters at Burlington’s Centennial Field tonight and Tuesday. They return home to Holman Stadium to face the Lake Monsters for the third straight night — and first night of a three-game homestand overall — on Wednesday.
Last night’s game featured the unique and traditional sun delay in Pittsfield. This one lasted 18 minutes, from 7:37 to 7:55 p.m.
