The news wasn’t that good for the majority of local high school tourney teams on Wednesday, including the Nashua High School South baseball team.

The Panthers fell at Londonderry and South head coach James Gaj felt things could have been different, as South committed defensive miscues in the preliminary round loss.

Meanwhile, the Souhegan High School baseball team was one of just two diamond teams to win. Here’s a look:

BASEBALL

DIVISION I PRELIMS

NO. 6 LONDONDERRY 5, NO. 11 NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Panthers committed three errors and that spoiled a fine pitching performance by Max Demers.

“When you have a young team that hadn’t gotten to the playoffs in two years and Londondery gets to the playoffs every year,” South coach James Gaj said.

Owen Varley had a triple, Demers and Jack Ninteau (RBI) had one hit while Ryan Caruso ( 2 RBI) had two hits.

Demers, a junior, went six innings, scattered six hits and had three strikeouts. South outhit Londonderry 8-6 but its season ends at 10-10.

It was a wild playoff as the No. 2, 3 and 4 seeds (Pinkerton, Bedford and Dover) were all knocked out.

DIVISION II PRELIMS

NO. 8 SOUHEGAN 8, NO. 9 COE-BROWN 5

The Sabers got one-run pitching by Ethan Gaudet over 4.2 innings, allowing just four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Gaudet, Blake Powers and Joe Mayo all had big hits and runs scored, Jacob Bryan had an RBI, and Brody Smith had a hit. The Sabers will be at local rival No. 1 Hollis Brookline on Saturday at, as of now, 4 p.m.

DIVISION III PRELIMS

NO. 8 CONANT 4, NO. 9 CAMPBELL 2

The Cougars outhit the Orioles 11-4 but couldn’t drive those runners in as their season ends at 10-7.

Adam Correau had an RBI double while Aidan Kepple, Brady Marcotte and Body Pnciaro each had two hits; Kepple had the other RBI.

Mikey Grace tossed six innings, allowing four runs but just two earned, striking out three. But he walked six. Conant’s Kaden Kirby delivered a key RBI triple in the game.

SOFTBALL

DIVISION I PRELIMS

NO. 7 GOFFSTOWN 6, NO. 10 BISHOP GUERTIN 2

The Cards outhit the host Grizzlies 9-6 but it wasn’t enough, despite three hits apiece by Kenzi Labbe and Shayne Amico.

Amico and Kailey Olesak hit solo homers to account for the BG runs. Goffstown scored three in the fifth to take control of the game as BG finishes up at 9-10.

Lanna Bernier went 4.1 innings allowing five runs on five hits, striking out four and walking two.

Goffstown moves on to face No. 2 Pinkerton on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

NO. 14 BEDFORD 1, NO. 3 MERRIMACK 0

All season long Tomahawks coach Steve Yabroudy has indicated his team’s bats were hot and cold, and unfortunately they were the latter on Wednesday, as Bedford pulls off the shocker. Bedford will now head to face No. 11 Timberlane in Plaistow, the Owls an upset winner over No. 6 Windham.

The Tomahawks end what was otherwise a successful season at 15-4.

DIVISION II PRELIMS

NO. 4 CONVAL 3, NO. 13 SOUHEGAN 2

The Sabers season ends at 7-10 despite giving the Cougars a battle in Peterborough. ConVal moves on to face Campbell at home in the quarterfinals Saturday.

NO. 12 CAMPBELL 2, NO. 5 LEBANON 1

The Cougars made the long trip to the Upper Valley worth it, improving to 8-9 and earning a trip to Peterborough on Saturday. The Cougars certainly feel comfortable there, as they beat ConVal earlier in the season 5-4.
