Mother Nature simply did not want the Nashua Silver Knights and New Britain Bees to face each other this week.

The two teams were rained out for the second straight night, as after they were doused Wednesday at Holman Stadium, Thursday’s game at New Britain Stadium as also postponed. No word as of yet on when those games will be made up — Nashua isn’t slated to visit New Britain until July 31 while the Bees don’t buzz back to Holman Stadium until August 10.

Tonight Nashua is slated to go to Westfield for a 6:30 game, but the weather for the next couple of days isn’t supposed to feel like summer, with rain and cool temperatures.

In any event, the Knights haven’t played since Tuesday’s walk off win vs. Pittsfield, and hopefully the break in the action won’t slow down their offensive improvement.

“Their at bats are a lot better because they’re feeling confident about making contact, and now they’re making the adjustments at the plate,” Silver Knights manager Kyle Jackson said after that last game.

THE SCHEDULE

Nashua is slated to be back at Holman on Saturday night vs. the Suns, then go to Pittsfield Sunday, two at Vermont, then three straight at Holman next Wednesday through Friday vs. Vermont, Brockton, and Worcester.

After a June littered with early weeknights, the Knights have no Tuesday home games and just two Wednesdays in the month of July. After tonight, they are home four of the next five Friday nights. Also, Saturday’s game will be the last Saturday night game of the year; the other scheduled Saturday game, July 17, was moved to a noon start vs. Brockton as it will be televised on NESN.

LAST NIGHT’S FCBL RESULTS

Only two games in the FCBL were able to be played. Pittsfield blanked Worcester, 3-0 in Worcester while former Nashua Pride owner Chris English’s two clubs, Brockton and Vermont, squared off in front of 1,480 fans at UVM’s Centennial Field with Vermont coming out on top, 4-3.

That vaults the Suns into first at 19-11, a half game ahead of the 18-11 Rox. Worcester is tied for third with Norwich at 15-14, while Westfield is fifth at 13-13. Then it’s New Britain (13-16), Vermont (13-17) and Nashua (9-19).

Nashua is 5.5 games out of a playoff spot, and the Silver Knights have never missed the FCBL postseason in their 10 previous seasons.
