LONDONDERRY – The Souhegan High School boys track team must love the cold weather.

Back in February, the Sabers finished second to Coe-Brown in the indoor title meet.

On Saturday, in brutal almost winter-like conditions, the Sabers posted another top five finish, taking third in the Division II Outdoor Track Championships at Londonderry High School. Coe-Brown again was first with 94 points while Hanover was second at 78, the Sabers next with 64 points. That was ahead of fourth place Oyster River (60) and fifth place ConVal (52).

Last year’s champion, Milford, was sixth with 33 points and Hollis Brookline was 15th with 12 points.

In the girls meet, Coe-Brown was also on top tied with Hanover at 103, but pole vault scoring was not yet complete due to the conditions.

Hollis Brookline was in sixth at 32 to be the top local, with Milford (19) in eighth and Souhegan 10th with 10.

How did the Sabers do it?

“Our seniors,” Saber coach Jeff Wilson said. “Our jumpers, this guy here (Brody Smith) in the sprint. Our jumpers crushed it today, which was great.”

Souhegan’s John Katsel was first in the long jump at 20-9.25, with teammate Ryan Stone third (18-6.75). Katsel also took the triple jump at 43-11. Brody Smith was second in the 100 in 11.07 and 200 in 22.48.

Katsel, Smith, Ryland Raudelunas, and Ryan Stone were second in the 4×100 in 44.29 – one second behind rival Milford.

The Saber foursome of Thomas Arnoldy, Logan St. Denis, Jacob Spencer and Drew Rigaut finished second in the 4×800 in 8:35.56.

Saber Taven Beamer was tied for fifth in the high jump while Drew Rigaut got a sixth in the 800. The Sabers 4×400 relay team (Lucas Steckbeck, Smith, Aaron Coleman, Thomas Arnoldy) was fourth.

Milford has a champion in Ethan Morin in the high jump at 5-10, and the Spartans were champions in the 4×100 relay for the second straight year with Matt and Josh Pettingell, Morin and Ky-Mani Velez-Boggis coming in at 44.28.

Josh Pettingell was fourth in the 100 and 200. Chase Paiva was sixth in the javelin. Grant Skorupan was fourth in the 1600.

Hollis Brookline’s Devin Gomes took third in the 300 hurdles (43.93). Sam Kallfelz was sixth in the discus. Nathan Marchant was fourth in the shot put while Andrew Desmarais was sixth in the 100.

GIRLS MEET

Hollis Brookline’s Grace Dow had a great day as she came through with a division title in the 100 hurdles in 15.31 seconds and was second in the 300 hurdles in 46.82. She also took third in the 200 in 27.15. She was also on the 4×400 relay team, along with Madelyn Reardon, Julianne Berquist and Molly Reardon that finished fourth (4:16.88).

HB’s Madelyn Reardon was fifth in the long jump as was Victoria Dufresne in the shot put.

Milford’s Zoe Rick was second in the shot put, fourth in the discus while Rylee Coates took third in the 400 in 59.62.

Souhegan’s foursome of Caroline Ridlings,Lucy Densmore, Illari Pendleton and Dylan Walker were fourth in the 4×800 relay.Souhegan was fifth in the 4×100 and Samantha Swanbon took fourth in the 800.
