Coffey Post continues hot week with sweep of Exeter
NASHUA — Don’t look now, but the Nashua James E. Coffey Post #3 baseball team is off to a flying start to the summer.
The locals won their fourth and fifth straight games of the week on Thursday night with a doubleheaders sweep of Exeter, 3-2 and 12-1. That gives them a 5-1 mark in District B play.
In the first game at Holman Stadium, Nashua rallied after being down 2-0 in the sixth. Kyle Lavigne smacked a two-out RBI single to make it 2-1, then Jake Mitchell cleared the bases with a two-run double to put Nashua in front 3-2.
Padge Mac Seain went six innings and gave up two runs on six hits, striking out five. Drew Gryniewicz closed the door in the seventh with two strikeouts.
In a mercy rule-shortened Game 2, the Coffey bats were booming as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead on three straight doubles by Gryniewicz, Isaac Zhang, and Lavigne.
Ryan Bourgeois contributed three RBIs, and all that supported the one-hit, five strikeout pitching of Corey O’Day.
Exeter fell to 1-4. Nashua’s next District B game is at Rochester on Tuesday, followed by a rematch with Hudson at Elliott Field next Wednesday.
