Both UNH men’s, women’s hockey teams fall to UConn

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior forward Kohei Sato (Nishitokyo, Japan), freshman forward Nick Cafarelli (Middleton, Mass.) and junior defenseman Ryan Verrier (Reading, Mass.) all tallied two points, but the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team fell to UConn 8-3 at the Whittemore Center on Saturday evening. UConn’s Jonny Evans and Hudson Schandor each scored two goals.

It was a Huskies sweep on Saturday, as in Storrs, Conn. UConn recorded a 4-0 win over the Wildcat women.

The Wildcat men are now 3-7-1 (3-7-1 Hockey East), while the Huskies advance to 5-5-1 (5-5-1 Hockey East).

Junior Ty Taylor (Richmond, British Columbia) made 23 saves, while Tomas Vomacka made 21 saves to earn the win. UConn outshot UNH 31-24.

The ‘Cats went 0-4, while the Huskies went 4-7 on the power play.

UCONN WOMEN’S GOALIE RECORDS SHUTOUT

In the women’s game, Samantha Carpentier-Yelle stopped all 20 shots she faced at the Freitas Ice Forum.

UConn’s Natalie Snodgrass notched a game-high two points on a goal and an assist, while Camryn Wong, Savannah Bouzide, and Amy Landry also found the back of the net.

UNH starting goalie Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) stopped 25 of 28 shots in the first two periods. Ava Thewes (Clarkston, Mich.) played the third period and stopped eight of the nine shots she faced.

UConn (5-5-1, 5-5-1 HE) concluded the weekend sweep of UNH (3-10-1, 3-10-1 HE) without giving up a goal.
