Young’s pitching, Dupere’s return spark Silver Knights win

Telegraph file photo by TOM KING Jared Dupere and his .426 bat were back in the Silver Knights lineup Wednesday night at North Shore after being out a week.

The Nashua Silver Knights are off to a good start as they begin the two-week home stretch to the FCBL season.

The Knights topped North Shore, 5-1 on Wednesday at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass., thanks to a superb start by pitcher Griffin Young.

Young, making just his second start of the season, went six innings, allowing one run on just four hits, striking out seven while walking one to raise his record to 3-0. His earned run average is a microscopic 0.92.

He got relief help from Nick Guarino (1.2 innings, three strikeouts, no earned runs in 10.1 innings,), Steve Miller, and then finally Chris Chaney, who pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save of the season.

The Silver Knights are now 15-11, and the win gives them a two-and-a-half game lead on North Shore and a two game lead on Brockton for the second and final FCBL playoff spot with two weeks to play.

Offensively, Nashua had six hits, and was bolstered by a three-run second in which Ben Rounds had an RBI single, Nick Shumski a bases loaded walk, and Jared Dupere a sac fly. It was Dupere’s first game back in over a week due to family reasons. He’s hitting .426 on the summer.

In the seventh, Shumski (2 for 3) singled, Duprere doubled, and Keegan smacked an RBI single to make it 4-1. Dupere scored on a double play off the bat of John Mead.

The Silver Knights are right back at it again tonight vs. North Shore at Fraser Field at 6. Believe it or not, the Knights then see the Navs three more times, all at Holman Stadium (next Monday, Saturday Aug. 15 and Tuesday Aug. 18).

After tonight, Nashua returns home for four straight home games beginning Friday night at 6 vs. Brockton.
