We’ll see what new Thanksgiving memoires Patriot create

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Nov 24, 2022

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Oh, this holiday has always produced memorable moments, though few and far between, for the New England Patriots.

In 2000, for example, the nation got to view a skinny Patriots rookie QB who looked fairly lost, sent in during a blowout loss to the Detroit Lions. His name was Of course, who knew he’d become the greatest quarterback of all time?

Some 12 years later, when the NFL decided Thanksgiving night screamed for a game, we got to see the Butt Fumble, Jets QB Marc Sanchez’s brutal mistimed embarrasing play that woke us all up from our food comas is forever part of the history of the Patriots domination of the Jets.

What memories will tonight’s game produce? Oh the Patriot players must be thrilled to be spending Thanksgiving in Minneapolis, but if they don’t get their offense going, forget it.

But Pats QB Mac Jones is looking forward to a Thanksgiving game.

“I think it’s a privilege to play football on Thanksgiving at whatever age,” Jones said this week. “Whether you’re a young guy or high school, college, NFL. Definitely have good memories watching, playing and definitely excited to be able to play on Thanksgiving.”

We’re excited about finally shaking off the poor progoistications with a 7-0 week last week. Patriot fans hope Jones will be just as excited after tomorrow night’s game is all over.

VIKINGS 24, PATRIOTS 17

Tough call here. Kirk Cousins and the Vikes fell flat on their collective faces and will be looking to bounce back. They will if the New England offense continues to struggle, as well as the Patriots defense is playing. The turnover battle will be the key stat in this one. Remember, New England barely survived against the Jets last week.

BILLS 30, LIONS 24

The numbers should be high in this one, two great offenses as the Bills are back at their home away from home, Detroit’s Ford Field, but not as the home team. That’s OK, Josh Allen seems to have his mojo back and as well as the Lions have played under the emotional Dan Campbell, defensively they won’t be able to get the job done this time.

JETS 17, BEARS 7

Ugh. Well, Belichick pushed Jets savior Zach Wilson one step closer to the door, so the Jets are going with last year’s min-hero, Mike White. It doesn’t look like Justin Fields can play for Da Bears, and the Jets defense is too strong for Chicago no matter how White plays.

TITANS 27, BENGALS 24

This is probably the best game of the whole weekend, with a stark contrast in styles. The Bengals are coming into their own, but Derrick Henry’s running could keep the ball out of the hands of Cincy QB Joe Burrow. If that happens, Mike Vrabel’s Titans will keep pushing forward as one of the AFC’s best.

RAVENS 33, JAGUARS 28

This could be a fun game. Jacksonville’s defense won’t be able to limit Lamar Jackson, who is playing like a guy betting on himself (Hmmm, some guy named Judge did that in another sport, right?). Still the Jags will give it a shot.

COWBOYS 37, GIANTS 13

Probably the easiest pick of the week, and probably the dullest game of today. The Cowboys are hitting their stride, and the Giants, deluged by injuries on both sides of the ball, are falling back to earth. They have four of five of their usual starting offensive line out, and Micah Parsons will be in Daniel Jones’ kitchen looking for more mashed potatoes all day.

EAGLES 27, PACKERS 17

The early season view on this one was a blowout for Green Bay that might be flexed. Well, it wasn’t flexed and now it appears the Eagles will be the team winning handily as Aaron Rodgers — who revealed Wednesday he’s played the last six weeks with a broken right thumb — is having his worst season. Go figure.

LAST WEEK: 7-0

SEASON: 43-34
