Well, that was a nice summer, right?

We say that because this is the weekend that August arrives. And August is a month in which high school sports begin, NFL football is on your TV screens, albeit preseason, the nights get shorter, the temps get lower (a little)…Sorry, got carried away, didn’t mean to depress you.

Sure, it’ll still be summerlike, some summer sports will wind down. So here’s a look:

MONDAY, AUGUST 3

It’s the Silver Knights vs. Norwich, a mundane Monday, right? But this game could very well be deciding factor in the Silver Knights’ playoff fate. They can’t go four straight years with no playoffs, can they? Unfortunately, it looks that way. Thing no one wants to see is Norwich clinch on Nashua’s home field.

But oh, there’s a lot more — 6 p.m. on this day is the MLB trade deadline. Red Sox fans hope any other hitters Craig Breslow deals for don’t get injured in their first game.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5

We know Coffey Post isn’t playing, but the Senior Legion Northeast Regionals begin in Worcester, Bedford will the New Hampshire team. But there’s a couple of locals on Post 54, including Souhegan alum Brayden Hickman and Jaiden Bosquet, plus Bishop Guertin’s Caden Siraco.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 6

You will be able to see live NFL football being played for the first time this season. It’s the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, and the matchup is a ho-hummer: Arizona vs. Carolina. Oh well.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 7

It’s the Silver Knights vs. Norwich again, but this could be the final home game for the year for Nashua if the Knights don’t make the playoffs. Goes by fast, doesn’t it?

SATURDAY, AUGUST 8

If you read the feature in this issue of the Telegraph on former Nashua High championship athlete Jeff Conrow, then you know there’s a big wrestling show at McCarthy Middle School. Check it out; proceeds benefit the Nashua Cougars football and cheer.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 11

Head to Gillette Stadium for the New England Patriots joint practice with Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts. How many mini fights will break out?

THURSDAY, AUGUS. 13

Ready for some Patriots football? They host the Colts on this night for their preseason opener. We’ll probably see a quarter of Drake Maye, if that. And possibly nothing of A.J. Brown. Maintenance,you know?

FRIDAY, AUGUST 14

Well, here we go. It’s the first day high school football teams in New Hampshire can practice, and you know they all will. See you there as the clock is officially ticking on the season opener Labor Day weekend.

MONDAY, AUGUST 17

OK, folks, now it’s really over, because this is the day all the other fall sports join the high school party with their preseason practices: Soccer, field hockey, volleyball, cross country. We will be somewhere, checking things out.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19

It’s the opening day of the Little League World Series. Who will come out of the East region? Will it be a team from New Hampshire or Massachusetts?

It’s also the first day of two joint practices for the Patriots with the Eagles at Gillette. Hello, A.J.Brown. He defintely won’t play in this game…

FRIDAY, AUGUST 21

It’s the return of Rafael Devers – unless he’s dealt over this weekend — to Fenway with the San Francisco Giants.

The thing is, would he be traded again? Who wants that contract?

SATURDAY, AUGUST 22

The Eagles, if they survived the joint practices, will be the opponent for the Patriots at Gillette Stadium that night, the final preseason home game. One more for the road and then there’s a wait until the start of the regular season.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 28

Check your high school schedules, because the battles will begin for soccer, field hockey, etc. The high school season begins. One highlight: Bishop Guertin vs. Exeter girls soccer

Guess who’s back? Yes, the team that revived your season, Red Sox fans – the Yankees. That sweep back in June started this whol thing going. No comment.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 29

It’s the season opener for Nashua South boys soccer, the Division I runnerup. The Panthers will be hosting Portsmouth at 10 a.m.at Stellos Stadium.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 30

Welome to NFL Cutdown day, as teams need to be at 53 players by 6 p.m. All eyes will be on some teams like the Patriots, to see if any veterans didn’t make the cut. There will be a few, believe us. Head coaches slice off the players they inherited over a couple of years, so Mike Vrabel may take aim at a few.

There you go, fans. Is summer over? You be the judge.
