Time is now for Patriots as they enter a crowded stretch

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Nov 20, 2022

The time is now for the New England Patriots.

They have three game starting Sunday in 12 days.

“I think it’s great,” Patriots quarterback Mac Jones said. “It’s a great challenge. We obviously have a great opponent this week in the Jets. They’re playing the best football as anybody in the league right now.

“So excited for this one and kind of go from there.”

But Jones had the best advice for his team in the words that followed:

“There’s a lot of games coming up,” he said. “This is a great time to make a good push.”

It’s not going to be easy. After Sunday, the Patriots will have to play at Minnesota on Thanksgiving night, then the following Thursday, Dec. 1 at Gillette vs. Buffalo. There you go, a 12-day oddessy.

The Patriots own the Jets, and if they can stop the New York run game today, that should continue. But it’s an alarmng thing when offensively they’ve had little or no success.

“I think it’s constantly trying to find that identity,” Jones said. “Every offense is going to find that through the year. It’s going to be defined through the year. We have to work through that.”

Just like we’re working through a lousy year of picking games – without a spread, which makes it worse.

So here goes another try:

PATRIOTS 24, JETS 21

This shouldn’t be a blowout, unless Jets QB Zach Wilson implodes. He did the last time these two teams played, but if the Jets can’t stop Matt Judon from terrorizing Wilson – they have some offensive line injury woes – he’ll make an abundance of mistakes that will turn into points. And it’ll be 14 and counting.

CHIEFS 27, CHARGERS 23

Another good game with trends; Kansas City is playing its best football while many are starting to think Chargers QB Justin Herbert is overrated. The Chiefs own a three-point early season win vs. L.A. Already, and this one should be just as close with the same result.

BENGALS 30, STEELERS 17

This isn’t Opening Weekend, when the Steelers got that overtime win as the Bengals couldn’t kick. They better be able to now, and while the Steelers probably feel their season is on the line, the game means more to Cincy.

COWBOYS 30, VIKINGS 27

This should be another classic. Dallas needs this game, and we’re going with this theory: Just when you think Dallas is struggling in the regular season, it bounces back. Just when you think the Vikings are invincible, the real Kurt Cousins shows up and they let you down.

NINERS 17, CARDINALS 10

Despite Arizona’s struggles, a decent Monday Night Matchup. San Francisco is built to win a game like this, controlling the football, and the mess that is Arizona will come through loud and clear.

EAGLES 30, COLTS 13

Reality arrives, Jeff Saturday. There won’t be any Victory Monday. The Eagles are stinging from a loss to the Commanders and will take it out on your Colts. Look,we’re not so opposed to Saturday getting the coaching job (for now) as so many others, but Indy isn’t going anywhere this year and today you’ll see again why.

RAVENS 35, PANTHERS 7

Reality hits another team. Baltimore probably didn’t need the bye because it had the engines purring. But they’ll be purring again as while the Panthers are playing hard for interim coach Steve Wilkes, it just isn’t going to be nearly hard enough. You need talent, too.

LAST WEEK: 3-4

SEASON: 36-34
