SEPT. 24, 1962: “The Milford Orioles captured their third straight Tri-Mountain League championship by beating Salisbury, 6-1, in the final of the playoff series yesterday at Salisbury.

“Familiar names in the Milford lineup are many Nashuans and also Milford players who doubled as Dodgers stars this summer. Among them are Ed Lamb, Ray Thiel, Rollie Hardwick, Steve Ryder, Dick Ahrendt, Kenny Kane and Jim Herrick. Herrick was the winning pitcher.”

SEPT. 25, 1972 – “The Hollis cross country team defeated Raymond and Bishop Guertin in a tri-meet Friday afternoon by a score of 23-40-72.

“The individual winner of the meet was Ken Gurski of Hollis with a time of 13:02. Jamie Turrington won second place in 13:17.”

SEPT. 26, 1977 – “Glen Graham returned the opening kickoff of the second half 92 yards for a score and the Nashua High Purple Panthers went on to easily defeat the Leominster Blue Devils 30-14 at rain-soaked Doyle Field in Leominster on Saturday afternoon.

“… Graham also carried the ball 21 times for 116 yards, including three touchdowns and two conversions, all on a wet, slippery field.”

SEPT. 27, 1987 – “It began as a few simple questions, then evolved into an avalanche of inquiries that have evidently tumbled down a bit too quickly for Nashua High School football player Rich Belanger.

“Belanger, who has been attempting to earn a starting role on the Purple Panthers varsity despite them fact that he is using artificial feet, approached his head coach Ken Parady with a request not to conduct any interviews with him during the weeks leading up to games.

Belanger lost his feet in a train accident when he was 14-years old.

” ‘Reporters have come to practice and ask if they could talk to Richard for a few minutes,’ Parady said. ‘I’d look over a half-hour later and they were still talking to him. They call him when he’s in class, they call him at home.’ ”

SEPT. 28, 1994 – “Flo Phaneuf and Holly St. Laurent teamed up to win the annual Member-Member golf tournament at Nashua Country Club. The three-week tournament included five flights of partners competing on a point system based on players’ handicaps.

“Phaneuf and St. Laurent compiled 32.5 points to defeat Mary Lopez and Durelle Cloutier (28 pointss) and the first-flight field.”

SEPT. 29, 2017 – “What a week’s it has been for the Cavaliers volleyball team, who made it three straight wins against 8-1 teams with a 25-13, 25-19, 25-18 victory over Pinkerton Academy.

“Elizabeth Atkinson and Maddie Norris each had 10 kills apiece. Kayleigh Whalen added eight kills. Sophomore Maren Anderson (4 kills 2 blocks) and Sammie Sheppard (five aces, 15 digs) had solid nights.”

SEPT. 30, 1952- “Donald Gosselin and James Hastings, both of Nashua, were among a squad of 20 freshmen cross country runners who reported to coach Paul Sweet at the University of New Hampshire last week to start workouts for the fall season.

“The yearling runners open the season Oct. 10 against Boston University.”
