JULY 23, 1952 – “Tommy Leonard’s Team No. 2 jumped into the lead in the first match of the second half of the Nashua Country Club Twilight League last evening. Their 13-1/2-7-1/2 victory over Ben Bernard’s Team No. 1 gave them a two-point lead over Dr. Maxwell’s Team No. 8.
John Lafazanis provided the outstanding feat of the evening by holing his tee shot of 175 yards on hole No. 13.”
JULY 24, 1967 – “James E. Coffey Post notched a 2-1 record in games over the weekend but one of those victories was cast in doubt and will have to await an official ruling from American Legion Baseball Director Karl ‘Gubbby’ Underwood of Keene.
“The local Legion nine lost the completion of an earlier suspended game with defending district and state champion Post 79 of Manchester. The other ‘disputed’ game went to Nashua by a 5-2 score.
“… With the score tied 2-2, Dick Dyer raced for home plate from third base and, as 79 catcher Bob Nalette tried to put the tag on the sliding Dyer, it is alleged by (Post 79 coach Nick) Gabardina that they Coffey Post batter, Bob Monte, interfered with Nalette. Umpire Ed Dichard ruled Dyer safe on the play.”
JULY 25, 1987 – “Nashua West became the last Nashua team with a chance to uphold the city’s honor in the state Bambino tournament Friday night. In the semifinals at the Robert Murray Field, in front of Holman Stadium, the Nashua West All stars came from behind to down the Nashua East All-Stars, 4-2.
“Jim Cutter came up with the game-winning hit, a two-run single that gave West a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.”
JULY 26, 1972 – “Winning their second straight game in the playoffs for the City Little League Championship, the Northwest Orioles upended a spirited East Elks club, 5-2, last night.
“Dennis Laliberte was the hero as he pitched his team’s second no-hitter in two days, fanning 16 but walking six. Getting two hits for the Orioles was Jay Gallagher.”
JULY 27, 1977 – “The Nashua Chiefs had a little score to settle with Somersworth and a little pride to salvage last night, as they beat the nine from Somersworth, 3-2, behind the two-hit pitching of Steve Bangs and Larry Glennon.
“Somersworth had eliminated the Chiefs from the league playoffs Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader, 7-4 and 12-1.”
JULY 28, 1992 – “Nick Galbo of Nashua South turned himself into one pitcher’s dream and another pitcher’s nightmare in the same instant Monday night. Galbo connected for a fourth-inning grand slam off Barrington’s Brian Royce to give Nashua pitcher Tony Miranda a comfortable 8-2 lead. The hit provided the spark and Nashua cruised the rest of the way to a 13-4 win, capturing the crown in the New Hampshire Babe Ruth Bambino Baseball Tournament for 12-year-olds.”
JULY 29, 1982 – “The longer a record stands, the more significant it becomes when somebody even approaches a particular mark. That was the case Sunday at Nashua Country Club, when Joel st. Laurent shot a 64 to come within one stroke of the course record of 63.
“St. Laurent is an assistant pro at Green Meadow Golf Club in Hudson.”
