For openers, A few of those golden moments every golfer dreams of:

MAY 27, 1987 – “The ninth hole at Whip-Poor-Will Golf and Country Club in Hudson was a lucky one for two area golfers this week.

“On Tuesday, Dick Millard used a 5-iron for his first hole-in-one. His playing partners were Norm Farnsworth, J.R. Franklin and Ed Cooke. Farnsworth was on hand again to watch Fern Cloutier conect with a 5-wood on the same hole. Mark Taylor, Ruth Rolfe and Dot Falkowski were other playing partners.

“At Green Meadow Golf Club, Alex Simoneau, 89, from Nashua, scored a hole-in-one on the 13th hole of the new course there.”

MAY 28, 1992 – “Mike Elias had something to prove, but he knew he was running out of time.

“While his Bishop Guertin High School tennis team was cruising toward a second straight Class L finals appearance this spring, Elias, the team’s senior captain, seemed to be slipping in the other direction. He began the season at No. 3 singles. He played No. 5 in Wednesday’s championship match with Concord.

” ‘I wanted to prove I was a worthy captain,’ said Elias, whose 9-8 (7-5) victory over Concord’s Greg Herrick was the indisputable turning point in the Cardinals’ 5-4 victory, which gave them a second straight team crown.”

MAY 29, 1942 – “Belting three St. Joseph High pitchers for 15 safeties and 13 runs, Nashua closed its season yesterday at Manchester with a 13-2 win. … The locals have lost but one game om high school competition, to Manchester Central, 1-0, while all of the other major high school teams of the state have lost at least two contests.

“… Bill Black went the distance, giving up only five hits, three of them in the last of the ninth when the Purple had the game tightly sewed up with a 13-0 lead.”

MAY 30, 1972 – “Fourteen-year-old Alan Chandronnait of Hudson gave his elders a few tennis lessons this weekend as he won the eighth annual Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce Tennis Tournament at the North Common courts.

“Chandronnait, whose game has been improving by leaps and bounds, had been rated third in New England last summer in the 14-year-old and under class. This was his first major tournament win in Nashua.”

MAY 31, 1977 – “It was Bishop Guertin for the second straight year that dominated the running spring track Class L championships Saturday. The Cardinals ran away with the meet, putting more than 50 points between themselves and second-place Concord.

“… Phil Jankowski was the first Cardinal to win two events including the shot put and the discus, with Jim Otis winning the long jump and triple jump. Dave Johnson was first in the 100-yard dash.”

JUNE 1, 1982 – “Hollis Brookline rallied to win its third straight Class M-S boys track and field championship.

“… Dan Lynn was the meet’s outstanding performer with three victories and a third-place finish/ He captured the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.3 seconds, the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches in the rain, and the triple jump at 41-11¾.”

JUNE 2, 1967 – “The Nashua High school softball team posted its seventh straight victory yesterday as the Purple Lassies defeated Milford High, 4-1.

“The game was highlighted by Rachel Leduc’s home run with one on in the second inning.”
