APRIL 29, 1952 – “Shorthanded last week when edged in an evenly matched dual meet at Fitchburg High School, Nashua High’s track squad travels to Lawrence today at full strength for a second test, this one with Lawrence Central Catholic High.

“The Purple’s ace shot putter, Roger Cole, ineligible due to his age by Massachusetts Headmasters Association regulations, will compete in his first meet of the season although Central Catholic owns a Bay State address. The fact of the matter is that Central Catholic does not compete under Headmasters rulings hence Cole is eligible to compete. With this big boy sidelined at Fitchburg while Fitchburg’s shot putters swept that event with the winner putting the ball 2 feet short of Cote’s best heave..”

APRIL 30, 1962 – “Nashua High didn’t collect a single hit, but it took advantage of walks and errors and played heads-up ball to nip Manchester West 3-2 yesterday afternoon at Manchester for its third straight victory.

“… Billy Vermette, the Purple’s sophomore hurler, turned in a brilliant performance. He walked only three and allowed two hits.”

MAY 1, 1972 – “In a quadrangular track meet Saturday, Bishop Guertin placed second in the field of four.

“Other participating schools were Concord High School, Merrimack Valley High School and Bishop Brady High School.

“Outstanding performances were turned in by Gary Farnsworth of Guertin, who remained undefeated in all three of his events (long jump, 120-yard high hurdles and 100-yard dash).”

MAY 2, 1987 – “The New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association Basketball Committee at its Friday meeting affirmed the National Federation Basketball Rules Committee adoption of the 3-point field goal for high school girls and boys effective with the 1987-88 season.

“Any successful attempt beyond 19-feet, 9-inches will count three points beginning next season.”

MAY 3, 1994 – “Paul Chen’s score at 1:52 of overtime wrapped up a 10-9 thriller in favor of Souhegan High School over Hanover on Monday in a battle of the state’s No. 2 and No. 3 boys lacrosse teams.

The goal ruined a last-second comeback by Hanover as Scott Bridgeman scored at 11:58 of thew final regulation period.”

MAY 4, 2017 – “Alvirne shut out Merrimack on its way to win number six of the season.

“Starting pitcher Nicole Teague (4-2) pitched seven innings, giving up no runs on two hits, striking out 10 and walking two.”

MAY 5, 1967 – “For the second day in a row, Mike Moriarty won medlist honors with a 75 as Nashua High’s unbeaten golf team trampled Manchester Central, 12-0.

“Other NHS scorers were Dana Levesque, Bill Linquist and Jerry Larose, 78; Tom Monahan, 80; Bob Dichard, 81; and Bill Conway and Steve Crosby, 85.”
