MARCH 25, 1967 – “The appointment of Robert J. ‘Bob’ Jauron as offensive coach at Xavier University, Cincinnati, was announced today.

“Jauron, who spoke with the Telegraph yesterday, is a graduate of Nashua High, class of 1938, where he was a three-sport star. After graduation from high school, Jauron went on to star in football and baseball at Boston College.

” ‘It’s really too early to say what plans I have,’ Jauron said. ‘I’ll be going out there in a few days for spring practice and should know much better by May as to just what the workload will be.’ ”

MARCH 26, 1977 – “The Skate 3 Huskies blasted Tri-Valley, 15-6, last night in a New England Junior Hockey League game.

“The Huskies saw four players score the hat trick including Chip Bettencourt (who also had five assists), Sean Moran (four goals and one assist), Dale Metzler and Jim Donovan (also with two assists). Several Huskie defensemen also scored a number of points. Ron Morosco had five assists amd Jim Beaton had four assists.”

MARCH 27, 1982 – “The Immaculate Conception rolled to a convincing 61-21 over Our Lady of Perpetual Health last night in the 13th annual Raphael Invitational Basketball Tournament in Manchester.

“… Steve Metrano scored 15 points for the winners, aided by eight points from Chris Madigan, John Koskela and Bruce Thibodeau.”

MARCH 28, 1987 – “It’s not like Fred Lajoie was standing in front of Holman Stadium last November, helping the Eastern League pack their bags, gas up the trucks and head to Harrisburg, Pa. But when the Pirates did decide to skip town, Lajoie, president of the Nashua West Bambino League and state Babe Ruth commissioner, knew there was at least one positive aspect of their departure. For with Holman Stadium now vacant during summers, except for local amateur baseball, the stage had been set for an event Lajoie and his league have long wanted to host here: The Babe Ruth Bambino World Series.”

And so they did, in August, 1988.

MARCH 29, 1992 – “At the New Hampshire Level 8 and 9 United States Gymnastics Federation State Championships held at the University of New Hampshire, Colleen Bradley of Windham, Nikki Nedzbala of Nashua and Lisa Brewer of Hudson, all members of the Nashua School of Gymnastics, qualified for the USGF regionals.”

MARCH 30, 1942 – “Saturday at Keene, the Nashua Y varsity quintet wrested the state YMCA Senior Basketball Tournament crown from Portsmouth, 59-38, playing the best brand of ball the team has displayed all season.

“… Nashua’s Ray Chantal properly climaxed the season with a spectacular performance, scoring 26 points, despite ganging-up tactics employed by Portsmouth in the second half.”

MARCH 31, 1952 – “The Nashua High football squad moves outdoors for spring drills this afternoon at Holman Stadium, weather permitting. Whether or not the grid squad’s delayed workouts get started today depends on the weatherman.

“Whether or not the drills will be held inside the stadium depends upon the condition of the stadium turf which, as late as Saturday, was still too wet to permit any sports action on it.

” ‘We’ll work out at the stadium today if they let us,’ coach Buzz Harvey said, ‘but if they won’t we’ll work outdoors somewhere. We’re two weeks behind. … We’re making every effort not to conflict with an athlete’s interest in any of the other spring sports.’ ”

Baseball coach Buzz Harvey appreciated that vow.
