FEB. 5, 1962 – “Dick Diggins continues to beat the clock and Nashua High’s track team romped to its third straight victory by making a shambles of West and Central in a tri-meet at the Exeter Cage on Saturday.

“The Purple track and field men scored a total of 73 points as Manchester West was able to collect 14 and Central mustered just six.”

FEB. 6, 1967 – “Good shooting, combined with air-tight defense in the first two quarters, spiraled Spring St. Junior High to a 74-25 shellacking of an outclassed Alvirne Broncos JV team Saturday morning. It was victory number 12 for coach Jack Daniels’ hard-to-beat Raiders.

“In an exceptionally well-rounded scoring attack, Terry Briggs led the Nashuans with 14 points. Mel Briggs chalked up 13 and high-scoring Adam Gureckis assumed the role of playmaker in this as he contributed a low (for him) 10 points.”

FEB 7, 1977 – “Nine-year-old Joseph Largy of Nashua captured the New Hampshire Elks Hoop Shoot free throw championship on Saturday morning in Littleton, marking the second year in a row that that a Nashua boy has won the state title in the 8-9 year-old division. Last year it was won by Steve Piwowarski.

“The new state champion is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Largy.”

FEB. 8, 1992 – “Kim McCullion’s 18-point, 15-rebound outing showcased Nashua High School’s 14th straight Class L victory, a 68-41 romp at Manchester Memorial.

“The senior enjoyed season highs in both categories as the 14-0 Purple Panthers dismissed the 8-6 Crusaders.

“Marcie Byrd added 11 points for Nashua.”

FEB. 9, 1994 – “The long wait is over for Nashua’s Buddy Jeannette. The former basketball coach got the official word on Tuesday morning that, after several years of knocking on the door, he has finally been elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame, after being nominated by the Hall’s Veterans Committee last fall.

“… Jeannette adopted Nashua as his home in 1971, after retiring as coach of the Pittsburgh Condors of the old American Basketball Association. … He began his pro career as a player in the old National Basketball League, eventually becoming coach and general manager of the Baltimore Bullets after coaching at Georgetown University and the University of Baltimore.”

FEB. 10, 1982 – “Nashua Senior High recorded a triple first at a recent Alpine ski meet.

“Freshman Henrik Hyden won yet again for the boys in a meet at Crotched Mountain in Francestown and the even better.

Not only did the female Purple Panthers win the meet, Sue Lochhead skied to first place overall.”

FEB. 11, 2017 – “The Nashua North boys basketball team put itself in quite the predicament to start the season. The Titans endured five defeats over their first six games and appeared to be a long shot to reach the postseason. Since then, North has reversed its course.

“The Titans took a major step forward on Friday night with a 57-55 overtime triumph over Spaulding at Nashua High School North. Alonzo Linton led the way with 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Skye Boykin added 11 points, nine boards, five steals and three assists.”
