Best thing about the bye week is the extra film time, right?

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Dec 12, 2021

Are you all enjoying your bye week?

Warm weather trip? Some cliff diving, scuba diving, snorkeling?

Maybe some self scouting? Yeah right. It was probably Christmas shopping, other errands, and getting all those things done around the house. We’re not able to use the New England Patriots as an excuse on Sundays late, as their games are Thursdays, Mondays, and next weekend, Saturday.

Or maybe you’re like Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones, hunkering down and watching film.

“Reviewing the film and thing that we can do better,” Jones said when asked if he was looking forward to the bye week.

Oh brother. But Jones did admit he was also looking forward to “just getting away a little bit, and taking the advice from the older people on our team…”

But there’s always a but.

“But also realizing that we have a big game coming up against Indy. They’re a good team with a similar situation that we’re in.”

Similar in that they have the week off, too, but the Colts are still 7-6, not 9-4 like the Patriots.

Imagine if this were a year ago, when we were starting to realize New England wasn’t going anywhere. They are this season.

After two mediocre 4-3 weeks of picks, maybe we should have a bye. But nope, no weeks off, so here you go:

RAVENS 24, BROWNS 14

Sometimes one wonders how the heck the Ravens won eight games. One thing they can’t afford to do is fall behind, because Lamar Jackson can’t bring them back with his arm. But Baker Mayfield at this point seems held together by duck tape, so give Baltimore the edge. Just if it comes down to it, John Harbaugh, this time kick the extra point.

CHIEFS 30, RAIDERS 17

Kansas City seems back on track now. But a win in Vegas would definitely give them a dose of confidence – not to mention keep pace with the Patriots — as the Raiders appear to be doing their usual late season fade.

CARDINALS 33, RAMS 29

It just seems like it’s Arizona’s year, doesn’t it? The Rams made a major mistake this season in picking up Odell Beckham, Jr., because he’s just bad luck for any team. Whether he’s healthy or not, that bad luck continues. Great Monday Night matchup, though.

COWBOYS 34, WASHINGTON 17

The Dallas offense can score, even though its defense gives up points. But while Ron Rivera has done a great job keeping the WFT relevant, there is a big talent gap and we’ll see it here.

TAMPA BAY 34, BILLS 13

Here’s a statement for you: The Bills may not make the playoffs. Maybe. It’s laughable that a team that has been haunted by the Patriots for so long loses to them at home one night and then six days later gets mauled by Tom Brady. Can’t make it up.

BENGALS 23, NINERS 20

The two teams have given up nearly the same amount of points (22-23), and are about in the same inconsistent stratosphere like a lot of other NFL teams other than the Patriots. Go with the home team and better QB (Joe Burrow) in this one.

SAINTS 17, JETS 9

Ah, Sean Payton is finding out what life is like in the Bayou without a great quarterback. The Who Dats better find a solution to that problem down the road, right? How about maybe Jets injured signal caller Mike White? Meanwhile, at least the Jets could provide relief for them this week.

Now, time to go watch more film like Mac Jones.

LAST WEEK: 4-3
