DEC. 11, 1961 – “The Hudson Legion hoop team went on a scoring rampage to swamp the Raymond Town Team, 135-54, in a Saturday game at the Dr. H.O. Smith school gym.
“No less than seven men hit double figures. Dick Ahrendt paced the attack with 30 points, Tom Gondek contributed 29, Charles Howe had 22, Ed Cooke chipped in with 17, Bob Turcotte and Bob Theriault scored 11 apiece and Len Rioux had 10.”
DEC. 12, 1981 – “It’s early in the season, and even though Nashua High wound up its season debut against Alvirne on Tuesday with a comfortable score, uncertainty continues as to how the loss of its big men will affect this year’s play.
“Speculation may soon have to stop. Last night, maintaining their stride, the Panthers piled up a 56-42 win. John Boucher was the Panthers’ leading scorer, gaining 16 points and proving that there can be other stars than those that stand in the heavens and get set up.
“Conspiring with Boucher was Kevin Ouelette, who began training less than two weeks ago, held by an end-of-season football injury. Ouellete netted 13 points and Dave Egan captured 12 points.”
DEC. 13, 2001 – “Forward Karla Spence scored a game-high 28 points and dished out seven assists to lead the Hollis Brookline girls basketball team to its fourth victory of the season, 63-37, over Pelham.
“Point guard Kelsey McBride also had a strong game, finishing with nine points, seven steals and three rebounds while teammate Kelly Tess had eight rebounds.
Casey Tryon had 14 points, including two 3-pointers to lead the Pythons, now 2-2 for the season.”
DEC. 14, 2006 – “Despite a late comeback from Milford, Souhegan pulled off a 46-30 win at Milford on Wednesday. Ben Glassman of Souhegan pulled off one of the day’s bigger wins when he defeated Mike Bradley of Milford, 8-1.
“Matt Desureault also provided a big moment for Souhegan, clinching the day with a pin on Justin Jerrick of Milford in 49 seconds.”
DEC. 15, 2011 – “The Nashua High School South ice hockey team did enjoy one important edge in Wednesday evening’s season opener against rival Nashua North at Conway Arena – student support.
But games aren’t won in the stands, they’re won on the ice, and usually by the team that skates better. In this case that would clearly be the Titans, who came away with a 4-1 win, extending the Panthers’ winless streak in Division I into its third season.
” ‘As long as the guys are giving 100 percent, and playing the game of hockey the way it’s supposed to be played, I can’t be upset about it,’ first-year Panthers coach John Vlachos said.
“And certainly, North coach Charlie Corey was happy. Season openers can be tricky, but his club at times exhibited mid-season form, and his goaltender, sophomore Jake Genest, picked up a win with nine saves in his first ever varsity start.”
DEC. 16, 1971 – “The selection of Doug Pelletier and John Gureckis as most valuable players of the Fairgrounds and Spring Street junior high football teams highlighted the annual grid dinner sponsored by the Exchange Club of Nashua last night.
“Pelletier, a standout for Fairgrounds, was presented his trophy by coach Dave Coleman, while Gureckis, a star backfield man for the Raiders, received his award from coach Norman Burgess.”
DEC. 17, 2016 – “Merrimack senior Elise Jolly, who will play Division I college volleyball at the University of Delaware on a scholarship, wrapped up her high school career with another strong season. She finished the fall with 381 kills, 84 blocks, 211 digs, seven assists, 142 service points (37 aces). Jolly, who finished her career as Merrimack’s all-time leader in digs and the state’s all-time leader in blocks, was a first-team All-State selection and now The Telegraph’s 2016 Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.”
