NOV. 26, 1956 – “Three Nashua weightlifters representing the Nashua Young Men’s Athletic club won trophies at the Open Meet at the Boston YMCA on Saturday.”

“Winning first in the 198-pound class was Ralph Raymond, who amassed a total of 870 pounds and also broke his New England press record of 277-1/2 pounds with a 280-pound lift. Ralph Boucher, 148, although performing brilliantly was edged out for first place in his division but won second place easily. And Rene Lebrun had to settle for second place in the 132-pound class.”

NOV. 27, 1961 – “Traditionally, it’s the seniors who see the bulk of the action in the Harvard-Yale classics, but at New Haven on Saturday, Nashua’s Dick Lozeau figured prominently in the big Harvard win.

“Lozeau played the bulk of the third and fourth periods. And among the spectators was Lozeau’s former football teacher at Nashua High, coach Buzz Harvey.”

NOV. 28, 1966 – “The Nashua Giants put the finishing touches to a banner season Saturday afternoon at Holman Stadium by trouncing the Valley Stream, NY, Green Hornets, 20-0, in the Pop Warner Granite State Bantam Bowl.

“… Defensive whiz Steve Dichard inspired the Giants to their eighth shutout victory by scoring on a 55-yard pass interception return. For his superb efforts, Dichard was given the game ball at a special presentation at a post-bowl dance by coaches Al Dionne, Roland Diggins and John Bebos.”

NOV. 29, 1971 – “A hard-fought defensive ballgame resulted in a 12-12 deadlock between the Nashua High Panthers and the Xaverian Hawks. After the regularly scheduled Thanksgiving Day game was cancelled because the Park-Recreation Department refused to plow the Holman Stadium field, the contest was shifted to Westwood, Mass., at the last minute at the prodding of both coaches.

“Bob Blow turned in an outstanding effort for the Panthers, picking up both Nashua scores, one on a 92-yard run.”

NOV. 30, 1976 – ” ‘We really thought they would be country boys,’ commented one of the Buccaneer host mothers as the visiting Nashua Boys Club Junior Midgets, demonstrating their season-winning style, totally surprised their cosmopolitan football counterparts, the Inwood, Long Island Buccaneers, in a Thanksgiving Bowl Fiesta.

“The Nashua Junior Midgets, coached by Pete Stewart and Joe Doyle, were not quite the New Hampshire hayseeds the host Buccaneers expected as they out-passed and outran the Bucs 28-19.”

DEC. 1, 1981 – “Three goals in the last 15 minutes gave Keene State College a 3-0 victory over the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday and third place in the NAIA National Soccer Tournament.

“… Joe Bourassa, a freshman from Brookline and Hollis High School, scored the final Owl goal of a 20-2-5 season, his third of the tournament and 10th of the season.”

DEC. 2, 2006- “Bishop Guertin senior lineman Mark Spinney was named the Gatorade New Hampshire Football Player of the Year on Friday by Gatorade.

“A steamroller of an offensive lineman for BG, the 6-foot, 3-inch, 265-pound Spinney helped lead Bishop Guertin to its third straight Division II championship this past fall. According to the coaching staff at BG, Spinney was credited with 19 pancake blocks on offense, but also 91 tackles (38 solo), four sacks and three fumble recoveries on defense.”
