OCT. 15, 1956 – “Coming from behind to overcome a 6-0 second-period deficit, Nashua High’s young band of footballers took complete command after that and tallied twice in the second period and once after the intermission to turn back the Crimson of Concord, 20-6, Saturday afternoon before a handful of spectators.

“Sparked by the quarterbacking of Dick Holbrook and the running of Dick Denis, both of whom accounted for Nashua’s three touchdowns, the Purple evened the season’s record at two wins and two defeats.”

OCT. 16, 1961 – “The Rev. Thomas F. Crowe Circle of Columbus Squires played touch football at the Marshall St. Playground on Saturday. Squire Robert Reardon captained one team while Squire Thomas Andruskevich captained the other. Andruskevich’s team won by a score of 22-20 in a very hard-fought game.

“The activity was under the direction of the Physical Committee with Squire Steve Steckevicz as chairman.”

OCT. 17, 1981 – “Milford unofficially clinched home-field advantage for the upcoming girls soccer tournament quarterfinals with a 3-1 win over Manchester West on Friday at Keyes Memorial Park. And the Spartans, 13-2-1 semifinalists in the first official year under New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association jurisdiction in 1980, have followed it up with a 10-2-2.

“… Reina Mensh and Nancy Specker gave the Spartans the early cushion with two first-period goals. … Leslie Laychak also scored her sixth goal of the season seven minutes into the second half.”

OCT. 18, 1986 – ” It was a bit blustery out Friday, but the Hollis High School boys soccer team decided that it was still a great day for snake hunting. And they were very ‘cavalier’ about it.

“The Cavs (12-1-1) polished off the Pelham Pythons at home as goalie Al Guthrie pitched the shut out and teammates Keith Swider and Sam Homoleski provided the goals.”

OCT. 19, 1991 – “There were mixed emotions for the Milford Area Senior High School field hockey team following its 2-1 Class L win over Keene on Friday. Excitement over the upset was tempered by the fact that it came in the program’s final game.

” ‘It was sad, because this was the last game we’ll play together,’ Spartans coach Jeanne O’Brien said in reference to the upcoming split of the school.”

Beth Lambert and Monica Bradley scored the program’s final two goals before the split that came with the establishment of Souhgean High School in Amherst. Eventually, the program returned.

OCT. 20, 2006 – “For the first 30 minutes, Bishop Guertin’s boys soccer team came tantalizingly close to scoring on Nashua North without a goal to show for its efforts.

“But when you’re the top-seeded squad in all of Class L, such matters are temporary concerns. The Cardinals simply maintained their offensive pressure and scored in the 33rd minute (Daniel Balogh) and again in the 39th minute (Sean Dorman) en route to a 2-0 victory that secured the No. 1 seed in the postseason and clinched the Burque Jewelers Cup as city soccer champion.”

OCT. 21, 2011 – “Merrimack coach Joe Battista was in a fog following Friday night’s trip to Manchester West. Who could blame him? After all, the 28-14 win over the Blue Knights felt like an anvil was just removed from his shoulders.

“The Tomahawks’ offensive line was strong Friday, opening holes for Jackson King. Merrimack’s top back rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns.”
