This may be a classic “Get Off My Lawn” moment, though this aging soul wasn’t even thought of in 1946.

But considering the feel-good portions of this tale, it’s impossible to look back and rue the loss of innocence.

SEPT. 17, 1946: “Nashua’s Little Dodgers wrapped up the New England League pennant yesterday afternoon, tucking away the Lynn Red Sox, 8-2. There were 3,650 paid admissions looking on. Mike Nozinski, Roy Campanella and all the other Little Dodgers teamed up to wallop the Red Sox by the largest margin of the series.

“… General Manager Buzzie Bavasi announced that the players had voted to turn over all their shares of the (regular-season) second-place money to right fielder Harvey Porter, whose wife is seriously ill at a local hospital.”

SEPT. 18, 1961: “Nashua High’s football forces lost no time in beginning to prep for their home opener against Leominster on Friday night following the successful invasion of Concord on Saturday when the Purple kept their record clean against Dick Martin, who is serving his final season at the Crimson Tide helm.

“The Royal Purple, nicknamed the ‘Nashua Greenies,’ led by the running of Dick Diggins and George Zinkus paced their mates’ 14-8 triumph over a seasoned and mch more experienced Crimson club before nearly 2,400 followers at Memorial Field.”

SEPT. 19, 1981: “Milford AREA Senior High School had to come back twice in the second half against a highly regarded Laconia football team. Three touchdown passes by senior quarterback Dave Boyle, the last with 2:34 left, did the trick for an 18-13 win.

“… Whether it was luck or not, we showed our character in the second half,” coach Paul Lavigne said. “Even if we hadn’t won the game with the last TD I think we proved our point.”

SEPT. 20, 1986: “Four area coaches – three from Nashua High School, one from Bishop Guertin – were named winter sports coaches of the year by the New Hampshire Coaches Association.

“The Nashua coaches were boys basketball’s George Noucas, hockey coach Bill Batte, and track coach Bob DeMello. Bishop Guertin basketball’s George Gregoire was named assistant coach of the year.”

SEPT. 21, 1991: “The dormant offense awakened and the defense posted its first shutout as Nashua High School assembled a 6-0 Class L boys soccer win over Portsmouth on Friday.

“… Jay Rose scored a pair of second half goals to lead the 37-6 shots-on-goal assault. Jeff Stubbs and Reggie Henry also piled on second-half goals. Reggie Drew and Greg Ahearn scored first-half goals off feeds from Ben Kobbs and Stubbs.

“Assists in the second half were credited to Drew, Stubbs, Corey Forrest and Rose.”

SEPT. 22, 2006: “The Nashua South and Bishop Guertin golf teams both finished at 191, but the Panthers’ eighth man, Chris Denaro, shot a 43 to provide the tiebreaker in Monday’s match at Green Meadow Golf Club in Hudson. Dover (10-23) placed third at 207 while Alvirne (0-33) was fourth at 239.

“James Pleat and Zach Cabacoff each shot a 2-over-par 37 to lead South (23-10), while John Devito (38), Andy Sutcliffe (39) and Brendon Sheehan (40) rounded out the Panthers’ top five. Medalist Tracy Martin led Bishop Guertin (24-9) with a 35, followed by Peter Reilly (37), John Reister (38), Kyle Rafferty (40) and Travis Martin (41).

“For Alvirne, Ben Dionne shot a 43, followed by Curtis Wandell (46), Matt Martin (48), Seth Fornash (50) and Matt King (51).”

SEPT. 23, 2001: “The Souhegan Woods team of John Wollen, Scott Eccles, Jody Ruonala and Gary Rousselle won the New Hampshire PGA 2001 gross championship at Owl’s Nest Golf Club in Campton this week, posting a score of 62.

“Nashua Country Club’s Dick Dichard, Bob Angelini, Jack Butler and Scott Davis were two strokes back at 64 to take second place. Five teams tied for third, including Passaconaway’s Mike Ozog, Rick Hobbs, Sean Lacy and John Schuder and Nashua’s Bob Kay, Chuck Marquis, Tom Turner and Dave Frechette.”
