JULY 9, 1971: “Last night at Bronze Craft Field, the Police Travelers, behind the fine pitching of Gene White, defeated the McLaughlin Movers, in an exhibition softball game that drew nearly 400 persons.
“White struck out six of the hard-hitting Movers … Don Kasper collected his first home run of the season, a booming shot over the left-field fence in the fourth inning.
JULY 10, 1976: “In girls junior softball action last night the Blue Sox lost to the Gold Sox, 20-9. The Gold Sox now have a 7-0 record while the Blue Sox are 5-3.
“Tina Trudel pitched the win while Jean Perling hit a homer and double for the winners. Stacey Jean and Vicki Parker tripled while Joanne Decelle doubled for the losers.”
JULY 11, 1981: “Don MacLaren, ‘The Flying Scotsman,’ and the legendary ‘Big-O,’ Ollie Silva, will be back on the speedway again as the two long-time racing rivals square off in a special five-in-one Golden Oldies program at Hudson Speedway on Sunday night.
“For almost 20 years, MacLaren and Silva were the two best-known competitors in New England automobile racing. Together they have racked up more than 2,000 victories.”
JULY 12, 1986: “Dean Goulet’s three-hitter yesterday helped the Nashua Division I All Stars into the semifinals of the District I Babe Ruth tournament for 13-year-olds.
“Nashua beat Keene, 3-0, and will face Merrimack Valley in the semifinals. Merrimack Valley, based in Hudson, beat Souhegan Valley, 6-4, in another first-round game yesterday, behind the pitching of Seth Tebbetts and the hitting of Jason Labell.”
JULY 13, 1991: “Hudson Post 48 scored all the runs it would need in the first inning Friday night, building a 5-1 lead before settling for a 5-3 victory over Derry’s Chase Post 9.
“Jeff Glenn’s two-run single and Brian Belanger’s RBI-single highlighted the first-inning uprising. Pitcher Jeff Cloos scattered five hits in his complete-game performance.”
JULY 14, 2001: “They had their ace, Len Picota, on the hill. Their starting second baseman, Chad Fonville, was back in the lineup after missing nearly a month with a hamstring injury. Heck, they even brought back their 2000 playoff song, the national ballpark hit ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’ as the players took the field.
“So, you knew Friday was going to be the Nashua Pride’s night, and they didn’t disappoint, blanking the North Division first-half champion Newark Bears, 3-0, before a crowd of 3,237 at Holman Stadium.”
JULY 15, 2006: “Trailing 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Hollis/Brookline was able to rally for four runs to beat Walpole 6-5 Friday night in the Senior Babe Ruth Southern League Tournament.
“After Mike Grant reached on a fielder’s choice, Chris Walker (single, triple, two RBIs) singled in the tying run and Grant went from first to third on the play. Grant was then able to score the winning run on a passed ball and keep Hollis/Brookline alive in the tournament.”
