JUNE 26, 1961: “Kenny Kane, Nashua High three-sport star, has signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and will leave tomorrow to join Tulsa (Okla.) of the Texas League. It has a AA classification.

“Don Cobleigh, the Cards’ scout in the Nashua area along with George Kissell of Watertown, N.Y., head of scouts in this region, signed Kane to a substantial bonus. The amount was not disclosed.

“Kane will become a freshman at Colby College in September.”

JUNE 27, 1966: “Nashua’s Bill Foucher, with phenomenal individual performances in five events, captured the Outstanding Athlete Award in the third annual New Hampshire Open Track and Field Championships held yesterday afternoon at the Fairgrounds Track.

“Foucher was the overwhelming favorite in the decision by the officials and judges for his superb showing in the three track events and two field events. Enroute to winning the crown Foucher set records in the 100-yard dash and 120-high hurdles.”

JUNE 28, 1971: “In an exhibition game, the Division I Babe Ruth All Stars beat Fitchburg, Mass., in a well-played game, 4-2.

“Behind the combined pitching of Mike Brodeur, Chris Zoukis and Steve Mackey, Fitchburg was held to one hit and no runs until the ninth inning. Mackey deserved a better fate but had some shoddy fielding behind him allowing Fitchburg to score two unearned runs.”

JUNE 29, 1976: “Arthur Anderson of Kimball Hill Road in Hudson recently shot a hole-in-one at the Whip-Poor-Will golf course.

“Anderson was playing with Willie Rodonis, John Freitas and Ken Addison when he holed his first shot on the 150-yard, par 3 second hole. Anderson used a four iron to make the ace.”

JUNE 30, 1986: “If you like hitting, then you would have loved the Hudson American Legion Post 48 baseball team’s 23-6 lambasting of Laconia yesterday.

“Hudson matched its 23-run output with 23 hits, using all 18 players on its roster to put its league mark at 2-1, 4-3 overall.

“… Eric Eifler had three hits and five RBIs in just three innings. Dave Lavallee had three hits and three RBIs while Jerry Tardif also had three hits.”

July 1, 2001: “Chase Dipersia dropped down a suicide squeeze with the bases loaded to push across the eventual winning run in the second game as the Souhegan Valley Indians took a doubleheader from host Keene on Saturday.

“The Indians (5-5) won the first game, 6-2, before completing the sweep with a 3-2 victory.

“David Pennington and Jeff Farrington walked and Andrew Horgan was hit by a pitch before Dipersia dropped down the bunt to score Pennington.”

July 2, 2006: “The Boston Red Sox have promoted right-handed pitcher Kyle Jackson to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs from Single-A Wilmington. Jackson was in uniform for Saturday night’s 10-4 loss to the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate Trenton Thunder.

“The 23-year-old Jackson has appeared in 24 games for the Blue Rocks this season, posting a 6-0 record with one save and a 1.59 ERA. In 45-1/3 innings pitched, he has recorded 67 strikeouts and walked 24 batters. Opponents are hitting .159 against the Litchfield resident.”
