JUNE 5, 1961: “Ten Nashua High track stars have been selected to take part in the New England schoolboy track meet at the University of Connecticut in Storrs next Saturday, after helping their teammates successfully defend the state championship at Durham on Saturday.

“They are Richard Duquette, Al Neville and Paul Duquette in the discus; Richard Diggins in the broad jump; Duane Briggs, pole vault; Diggins, 100-yard dash; Leigh Hall, 440-yard run; Bob Goyette, 120 high hurdles, and Charlie Grigas and Ed Govoni, 180 low hurdles.”

JUNE 6, 1971: “A two-run homer by Portsmouth’s Steve Craig in the ninth inning provided the Clippers with their margin of victory, 3-2, over Nashua High in the quarterfinal round of the Class L baseball tournament at Manchester’s Athletic Field.

“Pitcher Jack Rowe got the win in this rubber game of a three-game series between the clubs. The fire-balling right-hander defeated Nashua for the second time this year, as he bested Nashua at Holman Stadium, 6-3, in the second meeting of the teams.”

JUNE 7, 1976: “The cow bell on the porch of the Bradley home in Westford, Mass., rand long and loud Sunday evening at 6:15.

“It signified that Pat Bradley had just captured the title in the Ladies Professional Golf Association $70,000 Classic at the Wykagyl Country Club. Pat played her amateur golf out of Nashua Country Club and is well known to area golfers.”

JUNE 8, 1981: “Two letters into the last name, the key phrase is there. That name again? Matt Piwowarski. Wow, indeed.

“… After a three-hour rain delay Saturday night in the opening round of the Class L baseball tourney, Piwowarski shook off some early control problems to go on to blank the Clippers of Portsmouth, 3-0, advancing NHS, like crosstown rival Bishop Guertin, into Wednesday’s semifinal round at Holman Stadium.”

JUNE 9, 2006: “Two losses. Both to top-seeded Kearsarge. That was the difference between an undefeated Division III championship campaign and first runner-up.

“Although the latter is what became of No. 2 Hollis/Brookline (15-2) following Thursday’s 10-7 title game loss to Kearsarge (16-1) at Stellos Stadium, talk in the Cavaliers’ locker room wasn’t about regret – too much was accomplished this spring for negativity.

” ‘It was a hell of a ride,” Cavaliers junior Cam Sousa said. “It’s definitely not how we wanted to end it, but with what we did this season . . . We have been through so much together. This year will always be special to me.’ “

JUNE 10, 2011: “Matt Jacobs hit a go-ahead home run in the fourth inning and the Nashua Silver Knights never looked back, beating the Torrington Titans 10-1 Friday night.

“The score remained tied until the fourth inning when Jacobs went deep, and Nashua’s Rob Benedict added another in the fifth inning. The Knights broke it open in the sixth inning, as Jon Minucci, Dan Gusovsky, Sam August, and Benedict all scored runs for the 7-1 lead. The Knights didn’t stop. James Katsiroubas scored a run in the seventh, as did Jacobs and Neverman in the eighth.”

JUNE 11, 1966: “The Providence College golf team has been selected to represent District I in the NCAA Golf Tournament at Stanford University from June 20-25.

“Nashua’s Joe Monahan won the individual crown with a 153 total. He defeated Danny Esposito of the University of Connecticut in a sudden death playoff on the 20th hole.”
