MAY 15, 1961: “Friday, when Portsmouth and Phillips Exeter Academy jayvees engaged in a dual track meet, Arthur Scott turned in what was classed as the fastest mile ever recorded by a New Hampshire schoolboy runner. He raced the distance in 4:24.9.

“Scott held the distinction for only one day, however, as Manchester Central’s Phil Jutras bettered that mark by running the mile in 4:21.5 in a quadrangular meet at Holman Stadium. … Despite Jutras’ superb effort, Nashua High trampled three Manchester schools – Central, West and Memorial.”

MAY 16, 1966: “Merrimack exploded for four runs in the first inning and went on to take a 7-1 win over Peterborough in the first game of a doubleheader. Peterborough won the second, 6-1.

“A triple and Bob Monte’s home run with a man aboard in the first inning of the first game set the Tomahawk wheels in motion and Peterborough never had a chance to catch up. Doug Kane took credit for the win. He struck out four, walked two and allowed Peterborough only two hits.”

MAY 17, 1971: “Bishop Guertin High’s track team returned to the winning side of the ledger Saturday with a convincing triumph over Pinkerton Academy of Derry.

“The win, paced by Gary Farnsworth, George Tremblay, and Mike Morin, moved the Cardinals’ record to 9-3 on the season.”

MAY 18, 1976: “An excellent display of defense and a clutch relief pitching job by ace John Gureckis gave the Nashua High diamondmen a 4-3 decision over Manchester Memorial yesterday.

“Nashua starter Chuck Thompson pitched for 6-2/3 innings and remains undefeated in Class L with a 5-0 record. Once again, the sophomore duo of Jim Ford and Mike Krueger were the big guns at the plate.”

MAY 19, 1981: “Mount St. Mary Seminary closed its tennis season at the .500 mark Monday with a 6-3 defeat of Pelham High School.

“The 8-0 Mounties took a 4-2 lead in singles to gain the upper hand. Top-seeded Yvonne Logan beat Kim Westfall 8-3. No. 4 Sue Russo edged Lynn Richards 9-7, No. 5 Sue Wrobleski whipped Kathy Johnson 8-2 and No. 6 Brenna Sullivan had an even easier time with an 8-1 defeat of Kathy Costello.

“Logan and Jackie Mann won the first doubles against Westfall and Laura Walsh, 8-2. The third doubles duo of Russo and Sullivan were 8-1 winners over Kari Donohue and Carolyn Ebacher.”

MAY 20, 2001: “The defensive work of John Fitzgerald, Tom Pelletier, Josh Bow, Brad Berthelotte and Ross Jubert helped Nashua post a 13-5 win over Keene on Saturday.

“Ben Desfosses scored five goals for Nashua, while Drew Barnard added four.”

MAY 21, 2006: “Emily Vaillette threw a two-hitter and her offense supported her with nine hits in a 6-0 win over Bishop Brady in Milford on Saturday.

“Vaillette struck out six batters and walked just one in keeping her personal record perfect (7-0). The now 9-2 Spartans received two hits each from Meghan Woodworth, Heather Blase, Kristen Calvetti and Victoria Bates, as well as a two-run double from Natasha Mossey.”
