MARCH 20, 1981: “Former Nashua High baseball and soccer star Laddie Renfroe is finding the southern climate most conducive to good baseball.

“Renfroe, a freshman, made the University of Mississippi varsity baseball team as a walk-on and pitched the team’s opener, a loss to Livingston State. Since then, Renfroe has won two straight, an 8-3 complete game over the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a five-inning, scoreless relief effort against Southeast Louisiana, won by Ole Miss, 16-4.”

MARCH 21, 1986: “Six area players will compete for the Northern New England team in the eighth annual Hockey Night in Boston Tournament.

“Bill Batte of the two-time champion Nashua High School is the coach of the team, which includes four of his own Purple Panthers: Forwards Jim Savage and Dan Boisvert, defenseman Brad Kreick and goalie Dan Belliveau.

“… Also playing for Northern New England will be Peter Birch and Steve Chartier of Bishop Guertin High School.”

MARCH 22, 1991: “… On Thursday night at Pennichuck Junior High School, most of the girls on the Hawks enjoyed their last hurrah, running out to a 17-2 lead and never looking back as they dumped the Jets 38-11 in the Nashua Girls Biddy Basketball championship game.

“The inside defense and offense of 6-foot center Jessica Narkunas and forward Courtney Ribodeau proved to be too much. Narkunas paced a balanced offense seven points and collected 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Ribodeau scored four points and complemented Narkunas nicely on the glass.”

MARCH 23, 2001: “The Third Annual Male Scholar Athlete Day was held recently at the Silver Cultural Arts Center at Plymouth State College. The NHIAA and the New Hampshire Athletic Directors Association hosted the event. The following area student-athletes were presented with a commemorative pin and a certificate in recognition of their accomplishments:

Alvirne – Aaron Collins, John Kennedy, Bobby Tewksbary and Dan Zube; Bishop Guertin – Michael Comeau, Bill Comerford, Joe Dalton, Bryan Dolan, Pat Dwyer, Ed Galotta, Mike Guarino, Tom Kropp, Andy McKay, Mike Orpin, Andy Prunier and Peter Richards; Hollis/Brookline – Jay Beck, Andy Bigelow, Ian Cassias, Mican DiGrezio, Trevor Hardy, Phil Levine, Peter Serian and Keoni Wright; Merrimack – Brock Dasters, Pat Diggins, Taylor Edler and Eric Levy; Milford – Chris Aborn, Mike Danner, Dave Shearhouse and Todd Sullivan; Nashua – Nick Caruso, Ben Charron, Ben Desfosses, Ray Fan, Ian Graven, John Gureckis, Jordan Jarry and Matt Vigeant; Souhegan – Kevin Allwarden, Alex Blank, Steve Conaway, Erik DiPilato, Ryan Dwyer, Tim Lenaghen, Matt Monks and Joe Moskowitz; Wilton-Lyndeborough – Ian Miller.”

MARCH 24, 2006: “With his sudden rise to the National Hockey League, Nashua’s Jeff Giuliano has become that type of athlete. Three years ago he toiled in the lower-level minors, playing in the East Coast Hockey League and hoping for a shot in the American Hockey League.

“Could it be that there are more Jeff Giulianos out there whose value will rise in the new NHL, its landscape altered by the salary cap and new rules?

” ‘ I don’t think Jeff’s value is a product of the new rules, I think Jeff’s value is a product of Jeff,’ said Manchester Monarchs general manager Kevin Gilmore.”

MARCH 25, 1999: “Three Nashua Elks Hoop Shoot girls champions, – 8-year-old Kelsey Hogan from Nashua, 11-year-old Ashley Philbrick from Merrimack and 13-year-old Cassie Loftus from Nashua, who won the 1999 State Elks “Hoop Shoot” championship last month – will be seeking the Elks New England Regional Hoop Shoot Free Throw championship March 27 at the Springfield Central High School Gymnasium in Springfield, Mass.”

MARCH 26, 1956: “The Wilton Shamrocks emerged victorious in the Hudson Athletic Association first annual invitational basketball tournament, topping the King’s Chevrolet quintet of Hampton 98-91 in the championship battle yesterday afternoon at the Dr. H.O. Smith school gym in Hudson.

“… Zoe Pellerin paced the Wilton scorers with 24 while Jim Doyle and Jim McGettigan contributed 22and 19.”
