NFL Picks: Every one should have a warning sign with it

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Oct 10, 2020

Here we go again, another New England Patriots/pandemic weekend turned into a manic Monday.

Who knows by the time Monday rolls around whether the test results change the schedule again.

One thing is for sure: Each week in the NFL, each game, is a tenuous one.

The New York Jets on Friday joined the COVID Club with a presumptive positive; everyone in the league is holding their collective breath.

“There’s nothing more important than the health of the team,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said on Thursday in his only media availability the last few days. “I mean, without a healthy team, you don’t have a team.”

Just ask the Tennessee Titans, whose game with Buffalo on Tuesday is 50-50 at best in terms of taking place. This whole thing could be getting out of control, but there’s always one thing to keep in mind.

“It’s the health and safety of the team first,” Belichick said, “and then it’s football second. … We’ll take it day by day.”

And that’s all we can do.

Meanwhile, the picks must go on, especially after a 5-2 week in which we proudly celebrate the Bengals first win.

Here we go:

PATRIOTS 24, BRONCOS 10

Denver scores 20 points a game but really, its offense is limited. Going through the list of starting QBs since Peyton Manning retired on top would take extensive research. Of course, if Brian Hoyer starts for New England, the final score would be 10-3. If Stidham, 17-10. If Newton, the one you see above. Keep in mind the Patriots have rushed for over 200 yards in each of their first two home games this season.

BROWNS 27,COLTS 21

It looks like perhaps the Cleveland Browns have found something. They finally got a showtime performance from Odell Beckham,Jr. Cleveland is one of the highest scoring teams in the league, but Indy one of the best defensive. Still, Philip Rivers?

CHIEFS 30, RAIDERS 17

Vegas is coming back to earth, and the Chiefs just keep flying higher. But keep an eye on the virus testing following that Patriots game, especially with Mahomes. The league will really be in trouble if he tests positive in the next couple of days. If he doesn’t, Chiefs stay unbeaten.

COWBOYS 37, GIANTS 3

What’s happening in New York is sad. The Giants try to compete, but eventually the mental edge just withers away. Dallas takes out all its frustrations of previous weeks out on poor Big Blue. Joe Judge is a good coach, just needs better players, especially an offensive line. Dallas has better players, the Cowboys just need better coaching.

SEAHAWKS 33, VIKINGS 27

Everytime you look up, Seattle is playing at home, but the edge isn’t what it normally is with no fans. Still, Russell Wilson & Co. are on a roll that continues. Both teams have defensive issues, but the Seahawks have the better QB.

STEELERS 24, EAGLES 16

Welcome back, Pittsburgh. It will be interesting to see what impact the layoff has on the Steelers, but they certainly appear to be the better team and their defense should contain Eagles QB Carson Wentz.

SAINTS 34, CHARGERS 17

The Who Dats should go into their bye week on a good note as the second game of what is now a Monday Night doubleheader. Justin Herbert is a good rookie quarterback for the Chargers, and they may have their guy for the next decade. The Saints have had their guy for years in Drew Brees and experience wins out here.

LAST WEEK: 5-2

SEASON RECORD: 18-10
