JUNE 24, 1945 – “Walter Fergnani and Romeo Dion teamed up to win in the Governor’s Cup golf finals at the Nashua Country Club. Fergnani and Dion defeated Harry Shaw and Howard Allen in the first round, T.J. Leonard and Ray Coutemarcje in the semifinals and Dr. Robert Maxwell and A.D. Barnes to wind up on top as the Governor’s Cup winners.”

JUNE 24, 1960 – “Southpaw Ed Cooke and Billy Hill collaborated their mound talents to toss a two-hitter at the Laconia Lakers and and gave their Nashua Dodger teammates a 12-4 Northeast League victory at Holman Stadium last night.

“In the meantime, the Dodger batters touched up two Laker hurlers for nine hits as Ed Lamb and Cooke each with a single and triple led the parade.”

JUNE 24, 1965 – “Forty-three junior golfers from the Nashua-Hudson area will be led by defending champion Paul Moriarty of the Nashua CC at the NHGA state junior golf championship to be played at Charmingfare Golf Club in Candia on Monday and Tuesday.

“Moriarty, winner of the state interscholastic title in 1964 and runner-up this year, captured the junior crown at Mojalaki in Franklin last season. He and Nashua’s Maurice Dichard are tagged as pre-tournament favorites.”

JUNE 24, 1975 – “The prospect of bringing professional baseball has once again been raised, somewhat more quietly than two years ago when a similar suggestion by John Alevizos and Joe Buzas of the Pawtucket Red Sox farm club met with steep resistance from city officials. This time the man who wants to bring baseball to Nashua is Murray Onigman, who was with the Red Sox organization in 1974.

“Onigman says he would like to transfer a Double A Eastern League franchise to Nashua – but only if the majority of teams which presently use Holman Stadium would go along with the idea.”

Well, at least the man understood the most fundamental neccssity for bringing a pro baseball team to town.
