JUNE 17, 1955 – “Jean Lyons, with a gross of 91, copped top honors in the 18-hole medal play tournament conducted by the Nashua Women’s Golf Association yesterday at the Country Club course. Rita Lewitt was low in the net division with a 72.

“In the second division, low gross went to Lois Moran with 113 and low net to Mae Barker with 73. In the third division, which played nine holes, Kay Jones was low gross with 56 amd Ginny Putnam, with 32, was low net.”

JUNE 17, 1960 – From sports editor Mike Shalhoup’s Musing:

“By turning down the use of baseball facilities at Holman Stadium or Athletic Field in Manchester for the schoolboy finals last weekend, the NHIAA missed the boat in what could have developed as an outstanding show.

“Instead the baseball committee moved the three games to Tilton, claiming that a neutral field, centrally located, was necessary. To play tournament games on a neutral field is understandable, but when fans are assessed $1 and then have to stand for a long afternoon is not understandable. It was a long afternoon too, as the first of three games started at noon and the end finally came about 7:30 that night. … At Tilton there were enough bleacher seats to accommodate no more than about 150 persons.”

JUNE 17, 1975 – From Telegraph managing editor John Stylianos’ column:

“Former Celtics star Tom ‘Satch’ Sanders was in fine form when he addressed the annual Bishop Guertin High Men’s Club $100-a-plate dinner program.

“It was as informal as a ‘smoker’ except that it featured steaks prepared by Larry Elliott, leading benefactor for BGHS. Assisting him was none other than Dick Jauron, former record-setting Yale University halfback, now top safetyman with the Detroit Lions.”

JUNE 17, 2019 – “A rainy Sunday could stop the 63rd Annual New Hampshire State Decathlon and Heptathlon, which concluded a set of strong results from several Nashua-area student athletes.

” … In the heptathlon, Bow’s Dominque Biron scored the most points for the third time in the last four years, finishing with 4,337 points. This was the fifth time Biron participated in the event, and this year she participated as an exhibition invitee, making Nashua South’s Sydney Lewis the defacto winner with 3,782 points. Lewis has posted the second most points now at the state heptathlon for the past three years.”
