JUNE 15, 1955 – “Phil Friel, Nashua Country Club professional, finished with a 74 to give him a total of 152 and a tie for sixth in the race the Massachusetts Open golf championship, which swings into the final 36 holes today at the Coonamesset Golf Club.”

JUNE 15, 1960 – “John Noraig batted at an even .500 clip this season to lead the Nashua Junior High hitters while five others hit .333 or better, according to figures compiled by junior high statistician Jib Kokoskie.

“Among the regulars who batted more than .300 are Joe Adamonis at .368, Richard Cabral .360 and Ronald Beaupre .348.”

JUNE 15, 1985 – “Nashua scored two runs in the first inning Friday night and Stan Fansler and Mitch McKelvey made them stand up for a 2-1 Pirates victory over the Waterbury Indians in Eastern League baseball.

“Sam Hero, Nelson DeLaRosa and Jim Opie singled in succession for the first run. Tony Laird hit into a double play before Ken Ford single to score DeLaRosa for the second run.

“John Farrell went the distance for the Indians and was charged with his seventh loss against three wins despite settling down to pitch four-hit ball over the last eight innings.”

Yes, that is the same John Farrell who went on to serve as Red Sox pitching coach and manager.

JUNE 15, 2016 – “A state record for career wins. An 18-2, state championship team. Sounds like a pretty good way to go out, right?

“Forget it. Longtime Souhegan High School baseball coach Bill Dod and his 527 career wins and four state titles aren’t going anywhere.

” ‘Oh, I’m not leaving,” Dod said after his team beat Portsmouth 2-1 for the Division II title on Monday at Manchester’s Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. “I think that’s a great question. The easy question is ‘Bill, you’ve won a state championship, you broke the state record for wins, a good time to retire?’

” ‘I love my kids. And it’s got nothing to do with winning or losing. We go places, people see these kids and say, ‘Wow, they’re awesome kids.’ I’ve got the best job in the country as far as I’m concerned.’ “
