JUNE 13, 1960 – “Nashua High has made New Hampshire sports history.

“Saturday afternoon at Tilton it capped its most successful school year by winning the state baseball championship, bringing to Nashua no less than five championships in major categories during the past nine months – football, indoor track, basketball, spring track and, most recently, baseball.

“In making a clean sweep the Purple downed a powerful Laconia nine, 11-5, as Tom Gondek and Kenny Kane collaborated with fine pitching

performances.”

JUNE 13, 1985 – “Ursula Cote and Bonnie Devost received special awards at the Nashua Catholic Junior High School Awards Banquet Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Hall.

“Cote received the 11th annual Alina Paul Memorial Award for best athlete. Devost was named winner of the fourth annual Christine Deschenes Memorial Award for courage and spirit.”

JUNE 14, 1955 – “Paul Bellavance, a member of the Nashua High School graduating class and a three-letterman in basketball, baseball and football, today was named as the school’s Athlete of the Year for 1955.

“The outstanding athlete, son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Bellavance of

350 Main St., was presented the Arthur Giotas Memorial Trophy by principal Edmund Keefe at the school’s assembly this morning. On hand for the ceremonies were football and baseball coach Charles Harvey and basketball coach Tony Marandos.”

JUNE 14, 1960 – “A seventh-inning rally which netted two runs fell short by two runs as the Nashua Dodgers dropped a 6-4 decision to the Rochester Independents at Holman Stadium last night.

“The only bright spot for the Dodger loss was Dick Ahrendt’s 4-for-4 effort. He singled four times in four trips to the plate.”

JUNE 14, 1965 – “Clifford Bridgeford amd Eileen Morey were the recipients of the Babe Ruth Good Sportsmanship Awards Day assembly held at the Hudson school.

“Also at the assembly, athletic awards were given in all categories. Among those presenting the awards were Donald Mead, James Marrion, Richard Patti and Mrs. Louise Pryor.”

JUNE 14, 1985 – “Nashua High School’s Holiday Basketball Festival is alive and most certainly kicking.

“After a three-year hiatus, there will be Christmastime basketball played in the Belanger Gym. It was announced Thursday that the Festival, in which area fans received their first taste of Patrick Ewing, will be revived for at least two years. The 1985 tournament is scheduled to take place Dec. 27-28.

” ‘When I took over as head coach. I wanted to reinstate the tournament,’ Nashua coach George Noucas said. ‘I got together with tournament director Frank Ulcickas and we just decided to go for it.’ “
