JUNE 10, 1955 – “Pitcher Joe Wrobleski and his Nashua High School teammates shut out Keene at Holman Stadium to throw the Section III standings into a tie between Keene and the Purple. Having a great day the plate for the home team was Johnny Daniels.”

JUNE 10, 1960 – From the classic Royal typewriter of sports editor Mike Shalhoup, rapping out his Musings:

“As the risk of sounding too boastful over the successes of Nashua High athletic teams, it can be said that the close of this spring’s baseball season will mark the end of the winningest school year for the Purple athletes and their coaches.

“And if Buzz Harvey’s baseball team is successful tomorrow, it will mark the first time in the history of NH schoolboy athletics that a clean sweep of state championships, in no less than five categories, has been registered by the same school.”

The champs, pending the baseball championship results: Football, indoor track, basketball and spring track.

JUNE 10, 1975: “The Keglers Den softball team scored a 15-3 victory over American Post 6 of Portsmouth in second-round action of the annual Rollinsford Invitational Tournament being played in Rollinsford. Keglers pitcher Bill Soubosky was in command throughout as he struck out three.

“Frank Ulcickas led the charge with three hits while Jim Repoport, John Johnson, Bill Vermette, Soubosky and Adam Gureckis each had two.”

JUNE 10, 1985 – “Gary Lewis and Moe Dichard were the championship flight winners in the Nashua Country Club Member-Guest tournament over the weekend, posting a plus-6 for the victory.

“Bill Burnell and Paul Moriarty Jr. were second at plus- 4 while Ray Brooks and Dick Dion were third at plus-2.”

JUNE 10, 2019 – “Joe Messina has one thought in mind every time he takes the field for the Hollis Brookline High School baseball team. That would be the memory of his late father, Paul “Rocky” Messina.

“Everything is for him,” said Messina, whose play, including the game-winning hit in the semifinals, has helped propel the No. 2 Cavaliers to today’s Division II finals vs. top seed Bow. “Everything I do now is to make him proud, you know? He introduced me to this game, and I hope that he would be proud of what I’ve been doing.”

“Rocky Messina, a landscaper at Nashua’s Sky Meadow Country Club, was tragically killed in a tree-cutting accident in January of 2009. His son has been playing baseball since he was 4 years old, but today may well be his last game. A musician who can play multiple instruments, Messina plans to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston in the fall.”
