JUNE 5, 1925 – “Golf fans are eagerly awaiting Walter Hagen, who finished fifth with a 293 in the national open golf tournament at Worcester yesterday, when he arrives here tomorrow to play in a 36-hole match at the Nashua Country Club.”
JUNE 5, 1940 – “With Ernie Rangazas pitching shutout ball, the High team made it tjree in a row yesterday afternoon by defeating Dover, 6-0.”
Presumably, the designation “High” is shorthand for Nashua High School.
JUNE 5, 1955 – “Raymond Brooks, a Nashua High junior, topped a field of 95 schoolboy golfers with a 78 to annex medalist honors in the qualifying round of the 11th annual New Hampshire Interscholastic Gold Tournament.”
JUNE 5, 1975 – “The Nashua High girls softball team, which finished first in Class AA this year, will meet 16 th-ranked Exeter High in the first round of the state tournament.
“… Pacing the successful Lassies will be stellar pitcher/hitter Debbie Rodier. Deb has hurled 12 games, has won 11 and struck out 67 batters in those 12 games – an average of more than five strikeouts a game and almost one an inning.”
JUNE 5, 2019 – “Hollis Brookline senior shortstop Joe Messina felt he wasn’t having his best game in Tuesday’s Division II semifinal against John Stark on Tuesday.
That all changed with one swing of the bat.
Messina’s two-run double to deep center at Warren H. Doane Field in the bottom of the sixth snapped a 6-6 tie to give the No. 2 Cavaliers an 8-6 win over the No. 3 Generals.”
And in volleyball action …
“It was all about energy for Hollis Brookline. The road Cavs had more of it early on in the match, more of it down 2-1 and more of it mattered most in the decisive fifth set.
It was that energy, coupled with huge plays from Matthew Wojcik and Sander Wimmer and the leadership of Mike Moscatelli that helped Hollis Brookline knock off Timberlane 25-16, 19-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-9 in the NHIAA quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Timberlane High School.”
