JUNE 3, 1960 – “University of New Hampshire (baseball) coach Hank Swasey, who has taught the game for over 40 years, states that Paul Bellavance is the best captain he ever had.

” ‘Paul’s a dandy,’ the veteran UNH mentor stated. ‘He runs the team and they know who’s boss. After a game when we’re playing away, he gets the boys together on the bus and goes over mistakes that happened during the day.’ “

‘A strong-armed catcher, Bellavance caught every inning of the Wildcats’ 15-game schedule and handled the Wildcats’ pitching staff with intelligence, judgment and ability.”

JUNE 3, 1975 – “Nashua High assistant basketball coach George Noucas is one of three persons recommended for varsity head coaching posts at West High by the School Board’s Athletic Committee.

“Ed Kissell was chosen as head football coach and Peter Lally for girls basketball.

“Among the candidates who were reportedly in the running to coach football were Paul Lavigne of four-time Division II champion Milford and Joe Raycraft of Division II runner-up Merrimack.”

JUNE 3, 1985 – “It was as relaxing as an afternoon stroll through a mine field, a two-hour episode of adventure theater with no plot and little character development but more chase scenes than any James Bond movie.

“… Despite being out-hit by Bishop Guertin 13-7, and despite the fact that the Cardinals had a potentially decisive rally nearly every inning the Purple Panthers earned a spot in the Class semifinals Wednesday against 10th ranked Exeter with a 7-4 victory.

“… We got the runs early, BG hung in there and we held ’em off,” Nashua coach Charlie Mellen said, boiling the plot down to its rudimentary form.”

JUNE 3, 2016 – “Bishop Guertin pulled off one of the biggest upsets of tournament season thus far, as the 15th-seeded Cardinals utilized 6 2/3 innings of superior pitching from senior D.J. Incropera to eliminate second-seeded Exeter 7-2 in Division I first-round action on Wednesday.

Incropera allowed two earned runs, walked three and struck out four to earn the win over the Blue Hawks (15-4) and push the Cardinals (8-12) into Saturday’s quarterfinals at No. 7 Salem (11-8).

Senior T.J. Hart (2 for 3) led the Cardinals offensively with a home run and three RBIs.”
