MAY 26, 1945 – From Telegraph sports editor Frank Stawasz’s column:

“State candlepin champion Wilfred Noel is wondering whatever possessed him when he agreed with Bowlaway management to keep out of the men’s singles championship match which will be rolled off this evening starting at 7:45.

“Wednesday night, teamed with city champion Carmen Melanson, the two champs lost out in a close but unspectacular match against against E. Couture and Mary Kudolis. Noel and Melanson came up with a total pinfall of 575 while Couture and Kudolis more than matched the champs’ total pinfall with 598 of their own.”

MAY 26, 1960 – “Tom Gondek, Nashua High’s promising right hander, added another victory to his list of impressive wins by tossing a two-hitter at the Keene Blackbirds yesterday afternoon to hand his teammates an 8-1 triumph.

“… While Gondek was turning ins his brilliant stint, the Nashua batters let loose a nine-hit barrage with Kenny Kane leading the parade, going 3 for 4.”

MAY 26, 1965 – “Two no-hitters were registered in North Little League action during recent games.

“The first was posted by Red Sox’ Baretto, who handcuffed the Yankees 11-2. And on Monday night, his teammate, Baddeley, accomplished the feat by beating the Braves 9-0. Baddeley fanned 17 of the 18 batters he faced for a new league record.”

MAY 26, 2018 – “The Nashua South girls were hungry, and it showed brightly out on the track at Friday night’s Division I State Championship Meet. South had three girls earn the title of “state champion” and delivered amazing point-scoring performances and personal bests up and down the lineup, nearly shocking eventual champ Exeter High.

“In the end, it was Exeter at 109 and South at 103, a race that nearly went down to the wire in the final, 4×400 relay.

“Junior Sydney Lewis highlighted the day, clearing 5-foot-4 to easily win the high jump. Lewis was a point-scoring juggernaut on the day.”
